QA/QC Manager - Los Alamos, New Mexico Job Description Apollo Mechanical Contractors is seeking an experienced QA/QC Manager to lead project quality programs within nuclear, DOE and other high-secure construction environments. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the project quality program, ensuring all work meets applicable codes, specifications, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities • Develop, implement, and manage the Project QA/QC Program in accordance with nuclear/high-secure requirements and company quality standards. • Lead and supervise QA/QC inspectors, including task assignment, mentoring, and performance oversight. • Plan, perform, and document a wide variety of inspections (dimensional, visual, weld, installation, equipment, piping, etc.). • Ensure subcontractors and vendors comply with project quality requirements; coordinate inspection activities across all project participants. • Manage and oversee non-destructive examination (NDE) activities including scheduling, documentation, and acceptance review. • Review, submit, and track QC technical submittals, ensuring timely approval by customer representatives. • Serve as primary liaison to the customer on all quality-related matters; participate in quality meetings, audits, and assessments. • Perform receiving inspections of materials and equipment to verify conformance with purchase orders and specifications. • Analyze quality trends and implement corrective and preventive actions. • Support project closeout through turnover documentation, quality records management, and final acceptance processes.
Required Skills & Abilities • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required; additional certifications (NDE Level II/III, ASNT, API) preferred. • Experience with ASME, AWS, and other applicable nuclear/high-secure codes and standards strongly preferred. • Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise QA/QC staff and influence cross-functional teams. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to interpret and apply drawings, technical specifications, procedures, and regulatory requirements. • Strong organizational and time-management abilities; capable of managing multiple priorities. • Demonstrated diplomacy, professionalism, and tact when collaborating with customers, inspectors, suppliers, and project teams. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Project).
Education & Experience • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quality Management, or related field preferred; equivalent job experience accepted. • Minimum 5+ years of quality experience in construction, industrial, mechanical, or nuclear/high-secure environments. • Prior experience working under NQA-1, Navy Nuclear, DOE, or other regulated quality programs is highly desirable.
