Job Description

Job Title: QC Analyst

Job Description

The QC Analyst supports both the Quality Control and Feed Laboratories by performing supplemental product testing and feed sample analysis to manage increased sample volumes. This role focuses on wet chemistry, instrumental analysis, and meticulous documentation under GMP/GDP guidelines, contributing directly to accurate product quality evaluation and customer feed analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform wet chemistry and general laboratory testing in the QC lab, including sieve analysis, thin layer chromatography, loss on drying using vacuum ovens, and related methods.
  • Complete high-throughput product testing, typically conducting 12 to 16 tests per day, while managing weighing and sample preparation for materials ranging from 50 mg to 1 g.
  • Document all product testing results clearly and accurately in a laboratory notebook, following GMP and GDP documentation standards.
  • Receive and log incoming feed samples in the feed lab, ensuring accurate sample identification and traceability.
  • Carry out sample preparation for feed analysis, including grinding, weighing, and solution preparation, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Analyze customer feed samples using HPLC, column chromatography, and UV-Vis spectroscopy to generate reliable analytical data.
  • Record feed analysis results in compliance with GMP guidelines and prepare final reports for leadership review.
  • Manage typical feed sample loads of approximately 16 samples per day, with the ability to handle increased volume during busier periods such as late summer.
  • Follow established procedures, methods, and systems without implementing process changes, ensuring consistency and compliance with lab standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with both small and larger laboratory teams, contributing to a positive, cooperative work environment.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices, including proper use and care of basic lab equipment and glassware, and keeping organized, complete lab notebooks.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry preferred; other science disciplines are also acceptable.
  • 6+ months of quality control experience in a GMP laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating one or more of the following: HPLC, column chromatography, wet chemistry testing techniques, and UV analysis or UV-Vis spectroscopy.
  • Ability to discuss and demonstrate familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and glassware, including proper handling and maintenance.
  • Strong capability in maintaining an accurate, well-organized laboratory notebook in line with GMP/GDP requirements.
  • Capacity to learn quickly and adapt to established procedures in both feed and QC product testing labs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team in the feed lab and a larger team in the general QC lab.
  • Consistent adherence to documented procedures and systems, with a focus on compliance rather than process modification.
  • Solid chemistry foundation, with the ability to understand and apply analytical methods and calculations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from an ACS-accredited program is highly desirable.
  • Undergraduate research experience, particularly with column chromatography, HPLC, or UV-Vis techniques, is a strong plus.
  • Experience in a high-throughput laboratory environment, managing multiple tests and samples per day.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an easygoing, cooperative demeanor that fits seamlessly into existing teams.
  • Ability to follow detailed written procedures and laboratory protocols with precision.
  • Comfort working with both pharmaceutical powders and animal feed matrices.
  • Interest in gaining additional industry experience and exposure to QC and feed analysis workflows.
