Job Description

QC Incoming / In-Process Mechanical Inspector
Location: Denville, NJ · Schedule: First Shift, Monday-Friday · Type: Temp-to-Perm
About the Company
Our client is an established Denville, NJ contract manufacturer with nearly 30 years of experience building cable assemblies, custom molded cables, wire harnesses, and electromechanical subassemblies for military and commercial applications. A long-standing supplier to the U.S. defense supply chain - including the Defense Logistics Agency and the U.S. Navy - the company builds strictly to drawing and military specification, where quality, traceability, and on-time delivery are non-negotiable. It is a close-knit, hands-on manufacturing environment where inspectors are trusted to make the call and are seen as a critical part of getting product out the door right the first time.
Position Summary
The QC Incoming / In-Process Mechanical Inspector is the first line of defense in the company's quality system. You will verify that purchased materials, components, and hardware meet purchase order and drawing requirements before they reach the production floor, then follow product through in-process and final stages to confirm it conforms to drawings and specifications. The role is primarily mechanical and dimensional, supported by visual and basic electrical checks. It is ideal for a detail-oriented inspector who is comfortable with precision measuring tools, reads drawings fluently, and can work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform receiving inspection of incoming materials, components, and hardware for compliance with purchase orders, engineering drawings, and applicable military specifications.
* Conduct dimensional inspections using micrometers, Vernier calipers, ring and plug gages, dial indicators, height gages, and optical comparators.
* Verify part numbers, revisions, quantities, certificates of conformance, and supplier documentation against PO requirements.
* Perform in-process inspections at defined points in the build to catch nonconformances early and keep production moving.
* Support final inspection of finished cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and electromechanical products, including mechanical, visual, and basic electrical checks.
* Interpret engineering drawings, manufacturing procedures, military specifications, schematics, and wire lists to determine acceptance criteria.
* Make accept/reject decisions; identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming material and document findings on inspection records and NCRs.
* Maintain accurate, traceable inspection records in support of customer, military, and internal quality requirements.
* Communicate inspection findings to purchasing, production, and quality leadership, and assist with supplier corrective actions when needed.
* Ensure inspection tools are handled properly and kept within calibration.

Requirements
1. 3+ years of mechanical QC inspection experience (incoming, receiving, or in-process) in a manufacturing environment - defense, aerospace, or electromechanical experience strongly preferred.
2. Hands-on proficiency with precision mechanical inspection equipment, including micrometers, Vernier calipers, ring/plug gages, dial indicators, and optical comparators.
3. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (including GD&T), purchase orders, manufacturing procedures, and military specifications.
4. Able to speak and read English, and a self-starter who works independently with minimal supervision and is confident making accept/reject decisions.
