Job Title: QC Laboratory Support Technician

Job Description

The QC Laboratory Support Technician (Technician II, QC Laboratory Support) works as part of a team dedicated to supporting Quality Control laboratory operations. This role focuses on managing analytical testing samples and backups, analytical standards, assay controls, laboratory reagents, and overall laboratory inventory. The technician provides ongoing, non-testing support so that laboratory analysts can perform analytical testing more efficiently and effectively. This position does not involve hands-on testing of product samples and instead concentrates on logistical, organizational, and quality-focused support activities within a GMP/GLP environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate routinely with laboratory analysts to ensure they have all required supplies, reagents, and materials prior to testing initiation.
  • Use a variety of information management systems and tools to manage inventory and logistics for samples, standards, assay controls, critical reagents, consumables, and other items that support QC laboratory operations.
  • Support laboratory analysts with non-billable activities such as glassware handling and labeling, laboratory waste management, laboratory inspections and walkthroughs, labeling tasks, and maintenance of kanban and 5S systems.
  • Assist with the creation and monitoring of purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and other procurement processes to ensure timely fulfillment of laboratory inventory requirements.
  • Collect, wash, and re-distribute laboratory glassware in a consistent and organized manner.
  • Manage the transport of laboratory waste to designated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) drop-off areas in accordance with site procedures.
  • Assist with laboratory preventive maintenance (PM) activities where appropriate and as directed.
  • Perform additional laboratory support duties, including future non-billable and non-critical tasks, as needed to help the department meet its goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to inventory, glassware handling, labeling, and other support activities, with strong attention to detail.
  • Apply knowledge of GMP/GLP and cGMP practices to daily work to support quality and compliance in the laboratory environment.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • 0-3 years of experience working in a GMP-regulated environment.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a GLP/GMP laboratory or GMP manufacturing facility in a laboratory or quality role.
  • Working knowledge of GMP regulations in a GMP environment.
  • Knowledge of cGMP practices and aseptic techniques.
  • Experience or familiarity with quality assurance and quality control concepts in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience with sample preparation, sample management, and laboratory preparation activities.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in cleaning and handling glassware and in completing documentation accurately.
  • Comfort using computers and working with different systems, software tools, and Excel.
  • Ability to support laboratory operations through non-testing tasks such as inventory management, labeling, and waste handling.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate's degree, preferably in a STEM discipline.
  • Working experience in a cGMP Quality Control laboratory.
  • Working experience with sample labeling systems.
  • Working experience with inventory management systems.
  • Pharmacy technician experience, particularly in a regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with kanban and 5S systems for organizing laboratory workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to support quality-focused environments such as GMP/GLP laboratories or manufacturing facilities.
  • Interest in a contract-to-hire opportunity contingent on strong performance.

Work Environment

The position is based in a Quality Control laboratory environment that operates under GMP, GLP, and cGMP standards. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The technician works closely with laboratory analysts and other quality professionals, using computers and various software systems, including inventory management tools, sample labeling systems, and Excel. The work involves frequent handling of glassware, laboratory reagents, and consumables, as well as routine movement of laboratory waste to designated EHS drop-off areas. The environment emphasizes organization, cleanliness, and adherence to 5S and kanban principles to support efficient laboratory operations. The culture supports growth through a contract-to-hire structure, providing the opportunity to transition to a longer-term role based on performance.
