Client Overview:
Our client is a growing materials innovation company currently expanding their commercialization and production operations efforts, and they are looking to add a QC Materials Technician to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$25/hr - $28/hr (Based on relevant experience)

Position Overview:
The QC Materials Technician would support the performance and consistency side of the business. This role would physically test the finished materials for characteristics such as tensile strength, abrasion resistance, thickness, softness, flexibility, and durability. The QC Materials Technician will help determine whether a material batch meets internal or customer specifications before it progresses further.

Responsibilities of the QC Materials Technician:
  • Perform routine physical and mechanical testing on material samples, including tensile strength, elongation, abrasion resistance, thickness, softness, flexibility, durability, and overall appearance.
  • Operate Instron or similar universal testing equipment and prepare samples according to established procedures and specifications.
  • Accurately document test results and compare findings against product standards and quality requirements.
  • Identify material inconsistencies, unusual results, or potential quality concerns and communicate findings to the appropriate team members.
  • Follow written test methods, standard operating procedures, and laboratory safety guidelines.
  • Maintain an organized laboratory environment and assist with equipment checks, calibration, and basic preventative maintenance.
  • Collaborate with product development and operations teams on material evaluations, product trials, and commercialization activities.
  • Support additional laboratory testing and product development projects as needed.
Required Experience/Skills for the QC Materials Technician:
  • At least one year of academic, internship, or professional laboratory experience involving materials testing, quality control, product testing, or material characterization.
  • Ability to follow detailed test methods, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately measure, document, and interpret test results.
  • Dependable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced product development environment.
  • Able to take direction, ask questions, and adjust priorities as testing needs evolve
Preferred Experience/Skills for the QC Materials Technician:
  • Familiarity with physical or mechanical testing methods, such as tensile, elongation, abrasion, thickness, flexibility, or durability testing.
  • Experience with Instron or similar universal testing equipment is preferred but not required.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Textile Science, or a related technical discipline is required.
