Position Summary

The Quality Control (QC) Technician 1B is responsible for performing quality control testing of aggregates, asphalt, and related construction materials to ensure compliance with company standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry requirements. This position supports production operations by collecting samples, conducting laboratory and field testing, maintaining testing documentation, and communicating quality-related findings to operations personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collect material samples from plants, stockpiles, job sites, and production facilities.
• Perform laboratory and field testing on aggregates, asphalt mixtures, and other construction materials in accordance with applicable testing procedures and specifications.
• Record, analyze, and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
• Monitor product quality and notify supervisors of non-conforming materials or test results.
• Assist with calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory and testing equipment.
• Maintain organized and accurate testing records and quality documentation.
• Support plant operations by identifying opportunities for quality improvement and process consistency.
• Conduct routine inspections of materials, equipment, and production processes.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory and work environment.
• Travel to plants and project sites as needed to perform testing and inspections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical training in construction materials, engineering technology, or related field preferred.

Experience

• 0 to 2 years of quality control, laboratory, construction materials, asphalt, aggregates, or related experience preferred.
• Experience in construction materials testing is a plus.

Certifications (Preferred or Ability to Obtain)

• TxAPA certifications.
• ACI Field Testing Technician certification.
• Aggregate and asphalt testing certifications as required by company and state specifications.
• Valid Texas drivers license with acceptable driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic understanding of quality control principles and testing procedures.
• Ability to follow standardized testing methods and written instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and reporting.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, plant personnel, and customers.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
• Ability to travel between plants, laboratories, and construction sites.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends as business needs require.

Work Environment

This position involves a combination of laboratory, plant, and field work. Employees may be exposed to heavy equipment operations, moving machinery, construction traffic, and varying environmental conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
