Job Description QHSE Lead
Summary:
The QHSE Lead is responsible for supporting and promoting the company's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) programs across subsea construction, offshore operations, ROV services, marine activities, and project execution. This position works closely with project teams, vessel personnel, management, clients, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices. The QHSE Lead assists in maintaining a proactive safety culture while supporting quality assurance, risk management, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities (must be completed prior to being assigned any projects):
As the QHSE Lead, it is essential that you understand and implement the Strategic Plan for 2023-2028. You must have a clear understanding of how the set strategic goals and objectives can be achieved to promote the company Vision. It is vital to comprehend how your position fits into the organization. You must have read and understood "Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin and "Begin with WE by Kyle McDowell (both provided by the company) within 90 days of employment. You need to understand and promote the company ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and how it works.
QHSE Lead Responsibilities:
" Support implementation and maintenance of the company's QHSE Management System.
" Promote a strong safety culture across office, yard, vessel, offshore, and project operations.
" Conduct safety observations, audits, inspections, and workplace assessments.
" Assist with the development, review, and implementation of QHSE policies, procedures, and work instructions.
" Support project teams in preparing risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and safe work plans.
" Monitor project compliance with company, client, regulatory, and contractual QHSE requirements.
" Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action tracking. " Maintain records of incidents, observations, audits, inspections, corrective actions, and safety performance metrics.
" Assist with internal and external audits and support continuous improvement initiatives.
" Coordinate employee training, competency records, certifications, and QHSE awareness programs.
" Support quality assurance activities including inspections, documentation reviews, and compliance verification.
" Monitor environmental compliance and support environmental protection initiatives.
" Prepare QHSE reports, statistics, presentations, and performance summaries for management and clients.
" Coordinate with project managers, engineers, vessel personnel, clients, and subcontractors regarding QHSE matters.
" Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response planning.
Job Description QHSE Lead
" Assist with management reviews, lessons learned programs, and continuous improvement efforts.
" Ensure QHSE documentation is maintained in accordance with company document control requirements.
" Perform other related tasks as required.
Education/Skills:
" Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Marine Transportation, Quality Management, or a related field preferred.
" Relevant offshore, marine, construction, or industrial experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
" Minimum of 5 years of QHSE experience supporting offshore, marine, subsea construction, energy, industrial, or related operations.
" Knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and quality management principles and practices.
" Experience conducting audits, inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
" Strong understanding of hazard identification and risk management processes.
" Experience developing and maintaining QHSE documentation and records.
" Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements applicable to offshore and marine operations.
" Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
" Ability to effectively interact with employees, management, clients, and regulatory representatives.
" Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
" Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
" Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
" Experience supporting subsea construction, offshore installation, SURF projects, ROV operations, vessel operations, or marine construction activities.
" Familiarity with management systems aligned with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards.
" Knowledge of offshore industry standards and guidelines such as API, IMCA, and DNV.
" Experience supporting client audits, vessel audits, and regulatory inspections.
" Possession of relevant QHSE certifications such as OSHA, NEBOSH, ASP, CSP, ISO Lead Auditor, or equivalent professional credentials.
" Offshore experience and possession of or ability to obtain offshore certifications such as BOSIET/FOET, HUET, and other client-required training.
Technical Requirements:
" Must be proficient and able to effectively work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
" Must be able to work on Mac computers. Training is available upon request.
" Must understand document control and file sharing procedures, Dropbox, and other online tools.
Physical Requirements:
" Able to sit at a desk for prolonged periods while working on a computer.
" Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
" Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in person.
" Must possess and maintain the physical ability to safely perform the duties of the position.
