Job Title: Qualitative Field Interviewer
Location: Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130
Duration: 06+ Months
Shift: Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with some flexibility in start and end times.

Summary:
National HIV Behavioural Surveillance is seeking a full-time, temporary Field Interviewer for a multisite project funded by the Department.

This position involves interviewing individuals about their behaviors related to HIV risk as well as conducting or assisting with HIV testing and counseling sessions with participants. The Qualitative Field Interviewer will report to the Field Coordinator, who oversees site operations and supports interviewers with project implementation. This position is expected to run from June through December 2026.

Schedule & Compensation:
Once data collection begins, hours may shift to accommodate field work, including potential evenings and weekends.
The position is based in the Boston area, with some local travel required.

Key Responsibilities:
Learn and follow study protocol.
Conduct semi-structured interviews with participants using tablet computers.
Participate in training for HIV testing and counseling.
Administer or assist with administering HIV testing and counseling sessions with participants.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally during face-to-face interviews.
  • Discuss sensitive topics such as sexual behavior histories and drug use with participants.
  • Provide referrals to medical and social services when needed.
  • Maintain detailed physical and digital records to support data reporting.
  • Meet regularly with MDPH staff and the field team to resolve issues and support program development
  • Collaborate with field site personnel to ensure smooth project scheduling.
  • Assist in developing project materials, including interview guides, recruitment materials, and reports to funders, in compliance with MDPH IRB and partner agency requirements.
  • Participate in required CDC trainings, national calls, and conference calls.
  • Support participant scheduling and secure participant record-keeping.
  • Assist with data analysis and dissemination of findings.
  • Contribute to recruitment efforts and develop strategies to increase participation.
  • Conduct street observations and community interviews to identify potential study participants.
  • Meet departmental participation expectations and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow established safety policies and procedures, including crisis management protocols.
  • Attend required meetings, in-services, and professional training sessions.
  • Maintain the professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
