Digital Accessibility Tester (Quality Assurance Analyst)

Position Summary

The State of Connecticut is seeking a Digital Accessibility Tester to perform manual accessibility testing across a wide range of digital assets, including websites, web applications, enterprise platforms, mobile applications, digital documents, chatbots, authenticated systems, CMS platforms, and legacy technologies. This role is responsible for identifying accessibility issues, documenting findings, supporting remediation efforts, and helping State agencies achieve compliance with accessibility standards.

This is a manual testing-focused position with accessibility testing serving as the primary responsibility.


Essential Responsibilities

Accessibility Assessment

  • Perform manual accessibility audits of State digital assets.
  • Develop and maintain accessibility test cases and testing methodologies.
  • Identify accessibility issues and provide recommendations for remediation.
  • Evaluate vendor products for accessibility compliance.
  • Support improvements to technology procurement related to accessibility.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Execute manual accessibility testing before and after remediation efforts.
  • Validate remediation work through regression testing.
  • Perform quality reviews of accessibility testing processes.
  • Maintain consistent testing standards and best practices.

Documentation

  • Document testing results and maintain organized testing repositories.
  • Produce benchmarking, compliance, gap analysis, and risk assessment documentation.
  • Support accessibility reporting and compliance tracking.

Communication

  • Clearly communicate accessibility findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Assist development teams in understanding remediation recommendations.
  • Provide updates regarding testing progress, risks, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with State agencies and vendor teams.

Accessibility Governance

  • Maintain testing libraries, standards, and reporting frameworks.
  • Mentor internal staff on accessibility testing practices.
  • Stay current with changes to WCAG, ADA, Section 508, and related accessibility standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Web Development, Library/Information Science, Human Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on digital accessibility testing experience.
  • 2+ years working on a digital product team.
  • Experience performing manual accessibility testing using assistive technologies.
  • Strong understanding of WCAG, ADA, and Section 508 compliance requirements.
  • Experience auditing digital products and recommending accessibility improvements.
  • Strong HTML, ARIA, and semantic markup knowledge.
  • Knowledge of responsive web design principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
