Quality Assurance Specialist

The Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist checks the implementation of the quality system, conducts quality assurance audits and monitors and records results from processes and procedures, and provides quality training to the Operations department staff. Is responsible for conducting incoming receiving inspections to IPC-A-610 class 3. Performs first article inspections (FAI) to AS9100, line inspections, finished goods and pack out inspections and audits on electronic, mechanical, and optic systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure said items meet critical specifications.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Understands and follows inspection plans, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, shop drawing prints and schematics to determine, validate or comply with specification, testing procedure and equipment to be used.
  • Proper use of precision measurement tools for inspection such as optical comparators, calipers, micrometers, thread gages, etc.
  • Uses a variety of test equipment that indicate electronic characteristics such as voltage, frequency, distortion, inductance, and resistance.
  • Verifies dimensions of various mechanical parts.
  • Compare results with specifications and records test data.
  • Examines stock to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Analyzes test results of out of specification items to help determine possible cause of failure.
  • Rejects defective items and initiates nonconformance records.
  • Confer with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others regarding testing procedures and results and to resolve problems.
  • Overtime may be required to accommodate business workflow.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Qualified electro-mechanical inspector: two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree a plus.

Language skills

  • Proficiency in the English language demonstrating oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical skills

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis a plus.

Reasoning ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, licenses, registrations

  • IPC-A-610 & IPC-A-620, inspection and/or instruction preferred

Computer skills

  • Microsoft Office Application including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Unipoint, Syspro and CAD/Solid Works a plus.

Physical demands

This position requires the incumbent to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally and regularly requires walking, sitting, talking, and using hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job are close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in an office environment. (Examples: business office with computers and/or computer printers, light traffic).
