Job Title: Quality Assurance Lab Tech
Location: Wyandotte, MI 48192 - 100% onsite
Duration: 3 months contract

Shift: 07:00 PM - 07:00 AM (12-hour shifts that rotate every other week. Some weekend work with every other weekend off)
Hours worked will be 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next.

The 12-hour shift rotates from night shift to day shift.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Quality Assurance Technician to support our Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) laboratory operations on a temporary basis.
This position provides laboratory testing and quality support for TPU manufacturing by performing physical, chemical, and mechanical testing of in-process and finished products, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate reporting of quality data.
The successful candidate will work closely with laboratory, production, and quality personnel to help meet customer requirements and production objectives while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

key responsibilities:
Following all safety procedures, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
Performing physical, chemical, and mechanical testing on in-process and finished TPU products according to established testing plans and methods.
Conducting MFI, physical, and chemical testing on samples from production.
Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, including extruders and injection molding equipment used to prepare test specimens.
Recording, reviewing, and entering test results accurately into electronic systems such as SAP, LIMS, or other laboratory databases.
Releasing laboratory data in a timely manner to support manufacturing operations.
Performing routine equipment checks, calibration verification, and preventative maintenance activities.
Investigating, documenting, and escalating out-of-specification results according to established procedures.
Supporting production teams in resolving quality-related issues.
Assisting with laboratory documentation updates, continuous improvement activities, and process standardization efforts.
Evaluating color and appearance properties using laboratory instrumentation, including spectrophotometers.
Maintaining laboratory cleanliness and organization in accordance with established standards.

Education:
Minimum of HS Diploma or GED

Experience:
At least 1 year of manufacturing, quality, or laboratory experience.

Qualifications:
Basic understanding of chemistry, mathematics, and statistical concepts.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Willingness to learn laboratory testing methods, equipment operation, and quality systems.

Working Conditions:
Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
Ability to work 12-hour rotating day and night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Frequent walking, standing, and stair climbing between laboratory and manufacturing areas.
Work is performed primarily in laboratory and pilot-scale manufacturing environments.
Potential exposure to chemicals, heat, noise, fumes, and airborne particles consistent with a manufacturing laboratory setting.
Visual ability to read, interpret, and document laboratory data and test results.
