Job Title: Quality Assurance Manager

Job Description

The Quality Assurance Manager oversees the quality of mechanical construction activities to ensure all work complies with government regulations and codes, contract requirements, technical specifications, and internal quality standards. This role focuses on monitoring and inspecting day-to-day construction activities, managing subcontractor and supplier quality performance, and conducting detailed quality inspections and tests. The position plays a key role in ensuring that all mechanical systems, including chilled water and boiler systems, are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work complies with government regulations and codes, customer expectations, contract requirements, technical specifications, and company quality standards.
  • Monitor and inspect day-to-day construction activities, with a focus on mechanical construction and related systems.
  • Ensure subcontractors and suppliers begin work only in accordance with the company's start-work policies.
  • Issue notices to proceed to subcontractors and suppliers only when site and project conditions will not adversely affect quality results.
  • Conduct quality inspections and tests on work in progress and completed work, and accurately record all findings.
  • Assess subcontractor quality and on-time performance and document performance against project expectations.
  • Verify that all quality standards are met before approving completion of work by subcontractors or work crews.
  • Review contract drawings and specifications to understand project requirements and quality expectations.
  • Review submittals against specifications to confirm compliance with project and code requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical and plumbing codes for mechanical systems when evaluating installations.
  • Oversee and verify mechanical installations, including generator installations and other mechanical components, for quality and compliance.
  • Support commissioning activities, including pre-functional checklists, functional performance testing, and preparation or review of final reports.
  • Ensure work aligns with relevant American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards and International Mechanical Code standards.
  • Coordinate with project teams to address quality issues, recommend corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in quality assurance management within a construction or mechanical construction environment.
  • Ability to monitor and inspect day-to-day construction activities for compliance with quality standards and project requirements.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BMS) or similar control systems.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and plumbing codes for mechanical systems.
  • Ability to review contract drawings and specifications and interpret technical requirements.
  • Ability to review submittals against specifications to verify compliance with project requirements.
  • Experience with construction quality management (CQM) and quality control processes.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical installation, including generator installation and other mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with chilled water systems and their installation and operation.
  • Familiarity with boiler systems and their installation and operation.
  • Experience supporting commissioning activities, including pre-functional checklists, functional performance testing, and final reporting.
  • Knowledge of relevant American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards.
  • Knowledge of International Mechanical Code standards.
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training related to construction environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document inspections, tests, and quality findings.

  • Experience working on large-scale engineering and construction projects.
  • Experience in mechanical construction projects involving complex mechanical systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple inspections, tests, and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to identify quality issues proactively and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Comfort working with building systems and controls, including BMS, during installation and commissioning.
  • Commitment to maintaining high quality standards throughout all phases of construction and commissioning.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site at a major court facility in Washington, DC, working primarily on the night shift. The work environment is a large, active construction and mechanical systems setting, involving chilled water systems, boiler systems, generator installations, and building automation systems. The position requires frequent presence in mechanical rooms, equipment spaces, and active construction areas, with adherence to standard construction safety practices and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arlington, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $130000.00/hr.
