Quality Assurance Specialist
Bus Operations
Performs inspections, audits and surveillance to assure that established Bus Maintenance procedures are being followed. Travels to any of NJ Transits Northern and Southern region operating locations to perform assignments on short notice, as well as various private carrier locations. Hours of work may vary according to nature of assignment, i.e., fuel island, AM/PM pull-out, operation in revenue service, equipment availability.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Researches and coordinates the development of standard operating procedures and work methods, and monitors maintenance of same.
- Analyzes bus performance problems and maintenance in coordination with Garage Maintenance Teams.
- Reviews and assists in instructing individuals in proper work methods and diagnostic procedures as required.
- Proposes training needs identified in field activities to the Manager of Maintenance Training.
- Inspects and audits revenue and non-revenue vehicles purchased at various manufacturing plants, and conducts audits as required.
- Develops and prepares reports indicating results of inspection activity, as well as a trend analysis and evaluation reports for executive management
Education, Experience and Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in vehicle inspection, repair and maintenance or quality control.
- Associate's Degree in Engineering, Auto Diesel Technology, Business Management or related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience; Bachelor's Degree in similar fields may substitute for four (4) years of the required experience.
Knowledge and Skills
- In depth knowledge in the interpretation of electrical/mechanical schematics and the application of performance specifications and data in order to evaluate equipment performance.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must possess or obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the proper class and endorsements to operate commercial buses with passengers.
Working Environment
- Fast paced garage/warehouse work environment
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Exposure to equipment, machinery/vehicles, chemicals and other hazardous materials
- Garages are highly noisy/ loud, contain dirt and dust and open at all times with exposure to extreme temperatures during different seasons
- In depth knowledge in the interpretation of electrical/mechanical schematics and the application
Physical Demands
- Perform tasks which may include heavy physical labor such as lift and carry heavy items
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel and bend throughout the workday
