Title: Quality Assurance Specialist – Food Manufacturing 
Position Type: contract with additional opportunity contingent upon performance and continued business need
Job Location: Arlington, TN
Shift: M-F 2PM-10:30PM, may occasionally be required to work 12-hr days.

Job Description
Performs microbiological, analytical, performance, and sensory evaluations using established methods and procedures. Ensures compliance with food safety and quality standards, including BRC Global Standards for Food Safety, HACCP, GMPs, data integrity, formula control, process monitoring, document control, customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company quality standards.

Major Responsibilities
  • Monitor and audit products and processes from receiving through shipping to ensure all food safety and quality requirements are met.
  • Conduct microbiological, analytical, performance, and organoleptic testing of ingredients, packaging materials, work-in-process, and finished products to ensure compliance with established quality standards.
  • Document test results accurately and promptly notify management of deviations or nonconformances.
  • Maintain databases and records of required laboratory and quality data.
  • Verify adherence to process controls, weight control, HACCP requirements, and finished product specifications through regular audits of procedures and documentation.
  • Work closely with Production and R&D teams to develop and maintain accurate work instructions, formulas, and product specifications.
  • Train and coach production personnel on formula and specification requirements, GMPs, processing procedures, laboratory methods, and evaluation procedures as needed.
  • Support plant and R&D teams with the testing and commercialization of new products and modifications to existing products.
  • Collect and communicate process data and product samples as required for internal and external customers.
  • Initiate, document, and track product and process changes, including supplier changes involving ingredients or packaging materials and engineering changes to equipment or processes.
  • Work closely with Production teams to monitor product runs, investigate quality issues, and implement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, sanitation programs, BRC standards, product safety requirements, and applicable regulatory, Kosher, and Halal requirements.
  • Initiate holds on ingredients or finished products that do not meet established product safety or quality requirements and ensure proper adherence to the Hold and Release program.
  • Recommend improvements to manufacturing methods, sanitation practices, laboratory procedures, testing methods, and equipment.
  • Stay current on manufacturing technologies, quality control practices, systems, and industry standards.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of products manufactured at the facility, including raw materials, packaging materials, manufacturing processes, quality specifications, and standards.
  • Participate in QA 6S meetings and Process Improvement Teams (PIT) to address quality and sanitation issues and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Help establish project goals, timelines, and objectives in support of business priorities.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and professionalism and adhere to company codes of conduct.
  • Follow all company safety rules and programs to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform other related duties as needed to support business objectives.
Food Safety Responsibilities
  • Follow all GMP, food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene and food safety standards.
  • Report food safety incidents, including GMP violations, ingredient or product contamination, metal detector/screen/magnet deficiencies, glass breakage, pest activity, and other potential food safety hazards.
  • Review food defense and quality records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with document control requirements.
  • Ensure employees follow food defense requirements, food regulations, and product/process quality standards, providing coaching when necessary.
  • Implement immediate and long-term corrective actions when food safety, food defense, or quality requirements are not met.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and complete documentation of quality and laboratory results.
  • Maintain appropriate housekeeping and cleanliness standards throughout the work area.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a food-processing, pharmaceutical, chemical manufacturing, or related industry.
  • Experience in dairy or non-dairy manufacturing is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of quality assurance techniques, quality management principles, and quality control tools within a food, chemical, pharmaceutical, or related manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, food safety, product safety, quality control, and safe manufacturing practices.
  • Understanding of manufacturing efficiency, including minimizing downtime and waste and optimizing yield.
  • Ability to train and coach associates and effectively plan, monitor, and coordinate tasks and projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to perform and understand basic statistical analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with or ability to learn Microsoft Access, Minitab, QAD, SAP, and OPTIVA.

Schedule
  • Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
  • May occasionally be required to work 12-hour shifts.
  • Weekend work may be required based on business and production needs.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs.).
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly climb, reach, stoop, pull, push, grasp, and balance while working on the production floor.
  • Ability to work in warm and cold environments and around noisy machinery.
  • Ability to work near confined spaces as required by production activities.
  • Ability to see and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively with employees, management, customers, vendors, and other personnel.
  • Ability to respond to questions and concerns, answer phones, and interact professionally with visitors and associates.
