Responsible for:

Under the direction of the Chief Quality Assurance Officer, the Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the work submitted by agency staff is consistent with SCHARP/BAFMA philosophies and meets the current standards for quality-of-care and other requirements as defined by L.A. County Department of Mental Health and Department of Health Services. This administrative position will follow charting and chart review procedures set forth by LACDMH Quality Assurance Unit, SAMHSA and other funding boards. The Quality Assurance Specialist will also function as a team member on the accreditation committee.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree (MSW/AMFT) required; license preferred.
  • Prefer Experience with documentation requirements for respective funding sources Medi-Cal, LAC DMH and SAMHSA preferred.
  • Must be able to pass California State Department of Justice criminal background investigation, Live Scan and/or fingerprinting
  • Prefer Experience with Electronic Health Record Systems. (i.e. Carelogic, Exym, Welligent)
  • Must possess attention to detail and the ability to be thorough and accurate.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks, and work independently and responsibly.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and team building interaction skills.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced expertise in Excel.
  • Must adhere to department and organizational guidelines and supervisorial instructions.
  • Must maintain a safe work environment and confidentiality at all times.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the agency's Chief Quality Assurance Officer, our Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for the following and will be thoroughly supported and trained to excel as they:

  • Complete all documentation audits and data reviews in accordance with SCHARP/BAFMA QA policies, procedures and other requirements.
  • Review information in client's record, including physical and electronic database: open client episodes and electronic health records, open/discharge clients in database.
  • Ensure compliance with LAC Department of Mental Health standards by verifying documentation accuracy.
  • Using the audit tool, conduct regular non-clinical and clinical quality checks on charts as directed and per department procedures, including quality assurance reviews, while ensuring all corrections are done in a timely manner to enhance success and quality improvements in the mental health program.
  • Demonstrate expertise in maintaining quality control activities including, tracking document submissions and interpreting statistical information to ensure program compliance and accuracy.
  • Develop familiarity with various Evidenced Based Practices (EBP) utilized by agency's service delivery staff.
  • Develop and present EBP reports from collected data which will measure client's outcomes and can be used in evaluating program fidelity and its effectiveness.
  • Provide centralize support in the areas of Evidenced Based Practice (EBP) training, scoring and report keeping.
  • Communicate audit findings, Department of Mental Health compliance requirements, and LACDMH policy and procedures changes.
  • Participate in the enhanced development of SCHARP/BAFMA written Policies and Procedures manual.
  • Participate in the agency's accreditation/re-accreditation process.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and complete filing system to monitor the integrity of audit findings.
  • Support data collection for the agency.
  • Attend and participate in agency's department trainings and meetings, when required.
  • Facilitate necessary trainings for new and existing staff.
  • Perform job responsibilities in both the field and office environments.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple activities to meet all external and internal deadlines
  • Collaborate and consult effectively with Program Directors/Managers, Chief Quality Assurance Officer, and other leaders/staff/programs to ensure they are consistently successful in caring out our Quality Assurance procedures at the highest levels.
  • Generate Electronic Health Record (EHR) reports to assist staff with compliance.
  • Other duties not specified in this job description when requested to do so by the Chief Quality Assurance Officer, Chief Executive Director or their designees.
