GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:The incumbent is responsible for setting standards, understanding and monitoring the quality of production. Must have a thorough understanding of GMP's, HACCP, SQF and USDA requirements and be capable of teaching and enforcing them in the operation on a daily basis. Will also be assisting the Safety Manager for approximately 10 hours each week. This position reports directly to the QA Manager. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:Supervisory responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Leads and Quality Assurance Technicians including coaching, motivating, disciplinary actions of subordinates Plan and Schedule staffing in all areas, cover vacations, etc. Direct subordinates in assuring the quality of finished product and adherence to the prescribed processes and procedures Ensure product specifications, process sheets, SOP's, SSOP, HACCP plan and USDA label approvals are followed. Assure that pest control and GMP audits are conducted in accordance with company standards. Monitor SSOP results to assure that cleaning and sanitation is executed in accordance with established pre-operational and operational guidelines and results are acceptable to USDA. Serve as department resource on SQF, USDA, GMP, SSOP and HACCP requirements. Assure that all are implemented and in place on an ongoing basis. Serve as the backup person for HACCP program. Work with Corporate QA persons (Director of R&D, Regulatory specialist) when changing and updating current SOPs, SSOP, HACCP, USDA and GMP policies and procedures. Ensure subordinates and associates in QA department are trained in appropriate standards for quality and adherence to GMP's. Serve as back up in the absence of the Quality Assurance Manager Execute other duties as assigned. REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: HACCP Certified or able to obtain within 6 months of employmentSQF Practitioner certification within 6 months of employment DESIRED BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Thorough knowledge of food processing GMP's, sanitation and statistical analysis required. Minimum 2 years food processing/manufacturing experience required, with at least 2 year of supervisory experience. Undergraduate degree in food technology or B.S. preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of Undergraduate degree.
