Job Title: Quality Assurance Technician (3rd Shift)Job Description

The Quality Assurance Technician plays a key role in ensuring that healthcare packaging materials meet strict quality, regulatory, and customer standards. Working primarily on the 3rd shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, this role focuses on performing mechanical and visual tests, documenting results accurately, and partnering closely with production teams to identify and resolve defects. This position offers exposure to both laboratory and manufacturing environments and provides strong opportunities for growth into other departments and future leadership roles within a stable, growing global organization.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical tests on materials and products to verify compliance with quality specifications.
  • Conduct visual inspections, including taking precise measurements with a ruler, to ensure products meet defined standards.
  • Perform color matching activities to confirm that materials and prints meet required color specifications.
  • Conduct leak tests to verify the integrity and performance of packaging materials.
  • Perform tensile testing to assess material strength and durability.
  • Use a ruler to confirm that packaging print is positioned correctly and consistently on materials.
  • Identify defects in products and materials through careful inspection and testing.
  • Communicate identified defects clearly and promptly to team members and relevant stakeholders.
  • Document all tests performed and defects found accurately and thoroughly, following established documentation practices.
  • Support good manufacturing practices (GMP) and quality control procedures in both laboratory and production environments.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to retrieve samples from the manufacturing floor and return them to the lab for testing multiple times per shift.
  • Stay with samples from start to finish throughout the testing process to ensure continuity and accuracy.
  • Follow ISO 9001 standards and internal quality assurance procedures in daily work.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fragrance-free laboratory environment while adhering to all safety and PPE requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and focus during repetitive or routine testing tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Experience or strong aptitude in quality assurance, quality control, or quality inspection activities.
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices and procedures in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of good manufacturing practices (GMP) and their application in daily work.
  • Ability to perform accurate visual inspections, including taking precise measurements with a ruler.
  • Capability to perform mechanical tests such as leak testing and tensile testing.
  • Ability to perform color matching and distinguish colors accurately as part of inspection activities.
  • Strong documentation skills for recording outputs from production machines and laboratory tests.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in identifying and documenting defects.
  • Comfort working in a production and laboratory setting, including being on one's feet and walking throughout the shift.
  • Willingness and ability to frequently move between the lab and the manufacturing floor to collect and test samples.
  • Ability to follow ISO 9001 quality system requirements and established procedures.
  • Effective communication skills to report findings and collaborate with team members.
  • Reliability in working 3rd shift hours (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous manufacturing experience is beneficial but not required.
  • A degree with no prior experience is acceptable.
  • Manufacturing experience without a degree is also acceptable.
  • Interest in learning about engineered flexible materials and healthcare packaging.
  • Motivation to grow within a stable business that promotes from within and offers opportunities to move into different departments and leadership roles.
  • Comfort working in a regulated environment that supports medical device, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and life sciences industries.

Work Environment

This role is based primarily in a quality assurance laboratory with regular exposure to a connected manufacturing environment. The position operates on the 3rd shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Technicians spend much of the shift on their feet, walking between the lab and the production floor multiple times per day to collect samples. The lab is fragrance-free and does not allow phones, supporting a clean, controlled, and focused workspace. The facility operates under ISO 9001 standards and follows good manufacturing practices. Technicians work around industrial products and equipment on the production floor and are expected to remain with samples throughout the testing process from start to finish. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including steel-toed shoes, which employees must initially purchase; a reimbursement program is available after conversion to the company. The work environment is described as friendly and supportive, with a strong emphasis on employee development, internal promotion, and exposure to the broader business, including advanced materials such as high-barrier films, aluminum foil composites, peelable solutions, and chemically resistant materials.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.10 - $23.10/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
