Job Title: Quality Assurance (QA) Technician
Location: Downingtown, PA (onsite)
Pay Rate: $22/hr

Required Skills & Qualifications
 
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in food science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Manufacturing, Laboratory Testing, or a related environment.
• Knowledge of food safety programs, GMPs, HACCP, SQF, sanitation practices, and quality systems.
• Experience performing routine laboratory testing, inspections, and analytical evaluations.
• Ability to accurately document test results and maintain detailed records.
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment calibration, validation, and maintenance procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify product quality deviations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with production personnel, supervisors, and cross-functional teams.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in data entry and reporting.
• Ability to safely handle chemicals, follow safety procedures, and perform physical tasks including lifting as required.
• Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and varying shifts as needed.
 
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
 
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in a food manufacturing or consumer packaged goods (CPG) environment.
• Knowledge of allergen control programs, metal detection systems, and sanitation verification processes.
• Experience working within SQF-certified facilities.
• Understanding of quality auditing and continuous improvement initiatives.
 
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
 
• Perform routine laboratory testing and quality assurance evaluations on raw materials, in-process products, finished goods, and externally supplied products.
• Monitor production processes using sensory evaluation, weight control, and analytical methods to ensure compliance with established product specifications, including moisture, pH, color, size, and weight requirements.
• Evaluate finished products for moisture content, ingredient compliance, breakage, package fill, seal integrity, code date legibility, and overall product quality.
• Accurately perform, document, and maintain records of all quality and laboratory testing activities.
• Utilize testing equipment for validation, verification, calibration, and routine monitoring activities.
• Communicate quality concerns, non-conformances, and out-of-specification findings to production personnel and QA/Production leadership.
• Identify, investigate, and determine disposition requirements for non-compliant products, including product holds, rework recommendations, and corrective actions with management approval.
• Monitor raw material storage areas and complete shift inspections, reporting any abnormal findings.
• Conduct metal detector validation and verification activities to ensure compliance with food safety requirements.
• Audit allergen control documentation, maintenance records, and operator forms.
• Perform pre-operational inspections of processing, mixing, and packaging equipment following changeovers and prior to production start-up.
• Conduct sanitation and allergen-cleanliness verifications to ensure equipment and production areas meet established standards.
• Execute and monitor Food Safety Plans and Food Quality Plans in compliance with SQF requirements.
• Maintain clean and organized laboratory and work areas while adhering to all safety and hygiene standards.
• Follow safe chemical handling procedures and proper lifting techniques.
• Support plant sanitation programs, including participation in Kleanz or similar sanitation management programs when applicable.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
