Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspections & Testing: Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections on cut, bent, and welded metal components.
  • Blueprint & Spec Reading: Interpret complex fabrication drawings, blueprints, and specific geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
  • Defect Management: Identify non-conforming materials and assist in root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) procedures.
  • Equipment Calibration: Set up, maintain, and calibrate precision measuring tools and testing devices (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMMs).
  • Documentation: Log inspection results and generate quality control reports utilizing ERP or QMS software (e.g., ISO 9001 systems). [1, 2, 3]

Core Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Experience: 1-3 years of relevant experience in metal manufacturing, welding inspection, or industrial quality control.
  • Math & Technical Skills: Strong shop math skills and a thorough understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
  • Tool Proficiency: Experience using measuring tools (tape measures, calipers, height gauges) and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) or portable arms.
  • Certifications: Certifications from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) or specific welding codes (e.g., AWS Certified Welding Inspector) are a major plus.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and tolerate a loud, sometimes non-climate-controlled fabrication environment. [1, 2]
