Department: Quality Assurance / Quality Control Position Level: Level I (Entry to Mid-Level) Shift: Day Shift | Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) Position Overview The Dimensional Inspector I is responsible for performing receiving, in-process, and final mechanical/dimensional inspections of precision metal electrical component parts (such as connectors, shells, contacts, housings, and backshells). This role ensures all manufactured and incoming parts conform strictly to engineering drawings, internal quality procedures, customer specifications, and applicable industry standards (AS9100 / ISO 9001). Key Responsibilities Dimensional & Visual Inspection: Perform first-piece, in-process sampling, and final mechanical inspection on precision-machined metal components. Inspect external/internal surfaces for burrs, tool marks, plating defects, thread damage, and overall visual workmanship. Tool Handling & Verification: Utilize standard mechanical measurement tools including digital/dial calipers, micrometers (blade, pitch, depth), drop indicators, optical comparators, thread plug/ring gages, and pin/plug gages. Verify calibration status of inspection equipment prior to use. Blueprint & Drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, product specifications, and standard GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) callouts (e.g., true position, concentricity, perpendicularity, surface finish). Documentation & Traceability: Complete detailed Inspection Reports, First Article Inspection (FAI) records, and routing logs. Log accepted/rejected material in the ERP/inventory management system with full lot traceability. Non-Conformance Handling: Identify, segregate, and tag non-conforming materials. Initiate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and collaborate with Quality and Production personnel to communicate discrepancies. Safety & Workplace Standards: Maintain clean, organized inspection benches adhering to 6S / FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention standards. Follow all company PPE and safety protocols within machine shop and assembly environments. Minimum Qualifications Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational technical training. Experience: 1–2 years of hands-on dimensional inspection experience in a precision manufacturing, machine shop, or metal fabrication environment (aerospace, defense, or electrical connector industry preferred). Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gages, thread gages, optical comparators). Fundamental ability to read engineering drawings and basic GD&T symbols. Familiarity with ERP/inventory systems for logging quality statuses. Physical Requirements: Visual acuity: Strong close-vision capability (correctable to 20/20) and color vision. Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods and lift parts/totes weighing up to 30 lbs.
