Job Title: Quality Control Inspector

Job Description

The Quality Control Inspector ensures that incoming raw materials, outsourced products, and finished goods consistently meet established quality requirements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role performs incoming inspections, in-process audits, and finished product inspections, documents findings, and partners closely with production, shipping, purchasing, and supply chain teams to resolve quality concerns and support continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming raw materials and outsourced products to verify they meet quality specifications before use in production.
  • Perform line clearance inspections prior to production runs to ensure equipment, lines, and work areas are properly cleared and set up.
  • Verify line cleanliness and confirm that correct packaging materials are in place before and during production.
  • Conduct in-process and finished product inspections, including checking fill weights, seals, color, odor, torque, lot codes, and overall appearance.
  • Review batch records and production documentation to confirm accuracy, completeness, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Document quality findings, deviations, and non-conformances in a clear and organized manner, and communicate issues to production and supply chain teams.
  • Archive quality reports and records in accordance with established procedures to maintain traceability and compliance.
  • Train production personnel and operators on quality procedures, inspection methods, and documentation requirements.
  • Support investigations into production quality issues, participate in root cause analysis, and help implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Perform first-run inspections for new products to validate that processes, materials, and finished goods meet defined quality criteria.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, shipping, purchasing, and supply chain teams to resolve quality concerns and improve processes.
  • Work independently to prioritize inspections and tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail throughout the shift.

Essential Skills

  • 1-3 years of quality control or quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably involving cleaners, liquids, or foods.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspect raw materials and finished products against defined quality standards.
  • Experience documenting quality findings, deviations, and non-conformances in a clear and organized manner.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and standard quality procedures.
  • Experience reviewing batch records and production documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to communicate quality issues effectively with production, quality, shipping, purchasing, and supply chain teams.
  • Comfortable training operators and production personnel on quality procedures and inspection requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle defects or inconsistencies.
  • Good math skills, including basic calculations related to weights, counts, and measurements.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, documentation, and use of quality systems.
  • Ability to stand for the entire shift in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capability to work independently while managing multiple inspection tasks and priorities.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for clear reporting and collaboration.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a quality inspector or quality technician in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in consumer goods, chemical products, household products, or packaging operations.
  • Experience working in GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills are beneficial but not required.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility with a fast-paced production environment and frequent interaction with production, quality, shipping, purchasing, and supply chain teams. The position requires primarily standing throughout the shift and performing hands-on inspections on the production floor. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in accordance with facility guidelines. The schedule follows a 2nd Shift pattern, with initial training conducted on 1st Shift. First shift training runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the first few months. After training, the regular 2nd shift hours are Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The environment offers exposure to quality systems, production processes, and cross-functional operations within a stable manufacturing setting that provides growth potential and opportunities to work closely with production and quality leadership. Dress and appearance must comply with facility safety and PPE requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gurnee, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
