Job Description

This role supports a high-performance manufacturing facility by performing quality control testing on raw materials, bulk batches, and finished products. The Quality Control Laboratory Technician ensures products meet strict specifications, communicates results clearly to production teams, and initiates investigations into non-conforming materials. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and motivated to grow into greater responsibility over time, including potential long-term advancement opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements while maintaining a safe work environment and following internal safety rules and procedures, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in general housekeeping of the plant and laboratory areas to maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready environment.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Perform timely and accurate chemical, physical, and visual testing on raw materials, bulk batches, and finished goods using standard test procedures.
  • Determine appropriate raw material adjustment amounts to bulk batches to ensure products meet required specifications.
  • Enter test results for raw materials, bulk batches, and finished goods into the ERP system (SAP) accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform Usage Decisions (accept/reject) for raw materials, bulk batches, and finished goods in SAP based on test results and specifications.
  • Collect and store retain samples of raw materials, bulk batches, and finished products as required for future reference and investigations.
  • Take immediate action on internal non-conformances by creating notifications in SAP and performing initial investigations with production operators.
  • Support customer complaint investigations by reviewing batch records, analyzing retain samples, and providing relevant QC data.
  • Participate in audits and support root cause and corrective action activities, including updating documentation and records as needed.
  • Maintain critical laboratory equipment and inventory of supplies to ensure continuous, uninterrupted QC laboratory support for production.
  • Review the daily production schedule and ensure test equipment, reagents, and documentation are prepared to efficiently test all scheduled batches.
  • Provide clear documentation and visual QC labels for materials and products that are acceptable, rejected, or on hold.
  • Issue, complete, maintain, and process all relevant paperwork and electronic records in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend regular meetings focused on quality, safety, housekeeping, and waste minimization, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate all critical issues and problems related to QC test equipment, test delays, or potential quality risks promptly to management.
  • Collaborate proactively with production, operations, and technical teams to resolve issues and support smooth manufacturing operations.
  • Act as a strong team player by volunteering to help where needed, sharing knowledge, and supporting colleagues to get the job done.
  • Contribute to streamlining and improving testing processes to reduce redundancy and increase efficiency, with the goal of becoming a key gatekeeper for production quality.
  • Demonstrate strong project and time management skills to handle multiple tests, investigations, and documentation tasks within required timelines.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience, ideally in a quality control, laboratory, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, or consumer products, or closely related environments.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, specifically SAP, including entering test results and performing usage decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate promptly, clearly, and proactively across teams and shifts.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in testing, data entry, and documentation.
  • Experience participating in audits and working within an ISO or similar regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with root cause and corrective action processes and updating documentation accordingly.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook for data management and communication.
  • Ability to follow standard test procedures for chemical, physical, and visual testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work weekend and night/third-shift hours as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) or similar analytical techniques.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma tools or concepts.
  • Experience working with adhesives or chemical products in a production or laboratory setting.
  • Experience handling customer complaints and supporting investigations through batch record review and retain sample analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to streamline processes, reduce redundancy, and improve efficiency in laboratory workflows.
  • Strong initiative and a growth mindset, with a desire to take on increasing responsibility and develop into more technical or leadership roles over time.
  • Comfort working in environments with strong odors or chemical smells, particularly related to adhesives.
  • Interest in long-term career growth, including potential relocation opportunities to another facility in the future.

Work Environment

The position is based in a laboratory within a manufacturing facility that produces adhesive and related products. The lab and plant environment involves working around chemicals and strong odors, particularly from adhesives, and candidates should be comfortable working in an area with a noticeable and persistent smell. The role requires consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and strict adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety procedures. You will work closely with production operators, technical staff, and quality personnel, acting as a key gatekeeper for product quality. The facility operates multiple shifts. Initial training will take place on second shift (approximately 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.), with flexibility to support first shift (approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) if needed. The role will eventually transition to a third-shift schedule (approximately 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., Monday through Friday) as the facility operates across all three shifts. The environment emphasizes teamwork, cross-communication, and continuous improvement, with regular meetings focused on quality, safety, housekeeping, and waste minimization.
