The Quality Control Manager is responsible for leading the quality function within a metal fabrication environment, ensuring all products meet engineering drawings, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.
This is a hands-on role where the manager actively performs inspections, supports production, and drives continuous improvement in quality processes. The position also oversees quality systems, including ISO compliance and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of fabricated metal parts
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and tolerances
- Utilize precision measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and tape measures
- Operate advanced inspection equipment such as a Romer Arm (preferred)
- Identify, document, and disposition nonconforming material
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
- Maintain and improve quality documentation and inspection reports
- Communicate quality issues with production, engineering, and management
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards and lead recertification efforts
- Develop and enforce quality procedures and work instructions
- Train and mentor QC personnel and production staff on quality expectations
- Support customer audits and respond to quality-related inquiries
- Monitor quality metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Enforce safety and quality policies on the shop floor
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required (Associate's or technical degree preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing quality inspection (metal fabrication preferred)
- Proven experience in a hands-on QC role (not strictly supervisory)
- Experience with ISO quality systems (ISO 9001 preferred)
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Romer Arm experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of blueprints & tolerances
- Ability to troubleshoot quality issues and lead corrective actions
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Basic computer skills (Excel, inspection documentation, ERP systems)
- Effective communication and leadership skills
- Ensure consistent execution of quality standards through active floor presence, direct inspection involvement, and accountability for measurable results.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing shop environment. PPE required.
- Ability to lift 25-30lbs
- Regular time spent on the production floor
This is a working manager role requiring active, daily participation in part inspection and quality verification.
