Quality Control Supervisor, Raw Materials Department: Quality/Regulatory, Solutions Location: Carol Stream, IL Type: Full-time Summary: The Quality Supervisor, Raw Materials, will be responsible for overseeing the sampling, testing, inspection, and release of inbound raw materials. The Quality Supervisor, Raw Materials, is expected to support daily Quality activities as well as expand knowledge and training of Food Safety programs by participating in short- and long-term projects. This position also supports the larger Quality Systems Program of the site to ensure compliance with regulations and certifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to: - Oversee the inbound Raw Material Quality Control department. Manages raw material evaluation on all incoming shipments and ensures representative lot samples are obtained and tested according to established specifications. Reviews documentation for completeness.
- Monitors and coordinates the status of raw and packaged materials to ensure materials are processed in a timely manner. Communicate priority tasks and samples to the team and ensure urgent issues are addressed.
- Coordinates and delegates laboratory testing by setting priorities based on the needs of operations. Arrange the annual calibration of laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Train the team on the proper use, verification, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Manages the Quality portion of the new material (ECO) approval/review program. Track, assign, and complete risk assessments for all new materials. Set up inbound product specifications in Labware based on assessed risk.
- Perform and verify validations on critical control steps. Assign annual validations of methods, equipment, products, and food safety programs relevant to the department. Evaluate and review the effectiveness of inbound inspection and testing processes.
- Reviews standard operating procedures (SOPs), validation protocols, and reports as assigned. Reviews and approves method validations, Stability protocols, logbook review, and other activities to support QC as assigned.
- Review submitted product deviation reports. Approve products for use under deviation and ensure processing instructions have been properly communicated to Planning and Operations. Track and trend deviation reports and contact suppliers and manufacturers for Corrective Actions. Monitor Out of Specification and Rejection incidents for trends and work with Procurement and Suppliers to resolve repeated incidents.
- Perform sRCA (Root Cause Analysis) on Quality incidents. Enforce the implementation of necessary Corrective and Preventative actions.
- Oversee and monitor raw material stability and cost-savings through shelf-life evaluations and rework programs.
- Represent the department in monthly update meetings. Share departmental KPIs and communicate initiatives, campaigns, and new updates back to the department. Initiate projects designed to improve departmental performance.
- Co-hosts customer, regulatory, and third-party certification audits. Coordinates planning efforts for assigned audits. Assist in Corrective Action plans.
- Review Quality programs against regulations and GFSI standards. Assemble the Quality Verification Binder, including program reviews, monthly, bi-annual, and annual program review evidence.
- Coordinate the Internal Audit program. Assign monthly audit assignments, review and store completed documents, and action register. Train new auditors and manage monthly review meetings.
- Lead, manage, and coach the team. Produce annual SMART Goals for direct reports with a focus on developing further talent. Conduct regular coaching sessions. Effectively and consistently communicate with direct team as well as cross-functionally across departments and divisions. Ensure all required Quality, HR, and Safety training is completed.
- Conduct routine physical inspections of the facility and manage corrective actions. Interface with department leaders to ensure effectiveness.
- Support regional and global FSQA initiatives. Support a culture of Food Safety. Recommends modifications of existing standards or programs to achieve optimum quality within the limits of equipment capability and characteristics of materials. Ensure programs continue to comply with changing regulatory requirements.

Required Education and/or Experience: - A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a core science or engineering preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of quality control experience with a demonstrated history of increased responsibilities.
- Strong background in core programs like BRC/SQF, NSF, Organic, Kosher, and Halal is required.
- HACCP Certification, PCQI Qualified
Required Skills/Abilities: - Ability to read, understand, and interpret regulatory information, industry standards, and International and Federal Food Regulations. The ability to format and create regulatory/quality documents where necessary.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Thorough understanding of unit conversions, nutritional analysis calculations.
- Ability to make educated judgments on correctness, accuracy, and appropriateness of information. Must be able to provide leadership, organization, and prioritize and make decisions.
- Knowledge of JD Edwards, DocuWare, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and LIMS
