Description

Job Title: Quality Control Technician

Job Description

the person Our Client, Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Technician to support a growing Quality Control (QC) team at its Lake Villa production facility. This role focuses primarily on sample management and quality oversight of production activities, ensuring products meet regulatory and internal quality standards. The position offers a clear path for advancement into QA and sample management as the organization continues to expand its presence in antiseptic pharmaceutical solutions and other pharmaceutical products.

Responsibilities

  • Manage product samples to support the broader Quality Control group, including organizing, labeling, tracking, and routing samples for testing and inspection.
  • Work on the production floor to ensure filler operators follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) correctly and consistently.
  • Inspect incoming raw materials to confirm they meet defined quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify that lot numbers and product numbers match corresponding bottle numbers to maintain full traceability and compliance.
  • Document production goals and output for all nine manufacturing lines, maintaining accurate and timely records.
  • Audit production documentation and manufacturing processes to ensure adherence to FDA and GMP guidelines.
  • Conduct audits of incoming raw materials to verify conformance with specifications and quality expectations.
  • Collect samples from production lines for subsequent testing and inspection by the QC team.
  • Collaborate with QC and QA/Regulatory team members to support continuous improvement in quality systems and processes.
  • Follow all company policies, FDA regulations, and GMP requirements while working in staging and manufacturing areas.

Essential Skills

  • Experience or strong interest in Quality Control within a manufacturing or scientific environment.
  • Ability to accurately document production data, quality records, and audit findings.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple samples, records, and tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail when inspecting raw materials, verifying lot and product numbers, and auditing documentation.
  • Basic understanding of scientific principles, particularly in biology or related sciences.
  • Familiarity with FDA and GMP guidelines or willingness to learn and apply these standards.
  • Proficiency in data entry and maintaining accurate electronic and paper records.
  • Ability to work effectively on a production floor and in a staging environment while following SOPs.
  • Strong communication skills to work with operators, QC colleagues, and QA/Regulatory staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a science discipline is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology is strongly valued; degrees in material science, physics, or geology are also considered.
  • Candidates who have been out of the industry for a few years and wish to return are welcome to apply.
  • Non-degreed candidates with relevant Quality Control experience will be considered.
  • Interest in career growth into QA and Regulatory functions within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in inspection, documentation, and quality systems in a regulated industry is an advantage.

Work Environment

This role is based at the Lake Villa production facility within the new Quality Control group, which is expanding to be closer to the production lines and products manufactured at this site. Historically, the QC function was centered at another facility, but due to strong growth and a strategic expansion plan in generic drug and European markets, the company is building out its Lake Villa QC presence. The company primarily produces antiseptic pharmaceutical solutions and is expanding into additional pharmaceutical drug products. The Quality Control Technician will not work in a laboratory setting; instead, they will begin in a staging room and then transition to the manufacturing floor, where nine production lines operate, primarily on first shift. The QC team currently includes eight members, with five based at Lake Villa, and this role is part of a broader growth plan for the site. The organization follows FDA and GMP guidelines, and work involves close interaction with manufacturing operations and quality systems. Training will take place on first shift and then move temporarily to second shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.) for 5-7 weeks. After training, the position will primarily work first shift (around 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with some variation). Once a month, the role may require working a Saturday and/or a second-shift assignment, but otherwise follows a Monday-Friday first-shift schedule. The environment is a regulated pharmaceutical production setting with an emphasis on compliance, safety, and adherence to established procedures, and dress expectations align with working in a GMP-compliant manufacturing and staging area.
