Job Title: Quality Control Technician - 2nd Shift
Job Description
This Quality Control Technician role provides hands-on quality control support to the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance functions within a chemical manufacturing facility that produces industrial cleaning supplies for a wide range of industries. Working primarily in a laboratory setting with regular time on the production floor, you perform routine testing on raw materials and finished products, support investigations into quality issues, and help ensure that all batches and packaging meet established specifications. This is a contract-to-hire, 2nd shift position offering broad exposure to lab techniques, production operations, root cause analysis, and direct interaction with production, R&D, and customers.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic laboratory tests on raw materials, in-process batches, and fill line samples, including pH, specific gravity, viscosity, and titrations.
- Calculate and document batch adjustments as needed based on test results.
- Inspect packaging lines to verify conformance to specifications for fill weight, cap torque, labels and label placement, lot coding, and related parameters.
- Document all test and inspection results accurately on both paper and electronic forms.
- Review and maintain production records and files to ensure completeness, accuracy, and traceability.
- Inspect finished goods and received components to determine release status and compliance with quality standards.
- Participate in investigations of quality complaints and nonconformances, including reviewing documentation, retesting product samples, and inspecting components.
- Maintain strong attention to detail and professional integrity in all testing, documentation, and communication activities.
- Communicate effectively with production staff and management to relay test results, quality concerns, and recommended actions.
- Adapt to varying daily workloads, spending some days primarily in the lab and other days focused on inspections and activities in the plant, depending on production needs.
- Contribute to root cause analysis efforts to resolve customer complaints and feedback by working backward from reported issues to identify and address underlying causes.
- Apply short-term memory skills to manage multiple tests, inspections, and documentation tasks, ensuring that critical information is retained and recorded accurately.
Essential Skills
- Ability to perform basic laboratory tests such as pH measurement, specific gravity, viscosity, and titrations.
- Capability to calculate batch adjustments based on laboratory data and established specifications.
- Experience or aptitude in quality control, quality assurance, or laboratory work in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining professional integrity in all aspects of work.
- Ability to read, edit, proofread, and interpret technical documents such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and product labeling.
- Proficiency in grammar and spelling to ensure clear and accurate documentation.
- Effective communication skills to interact with production staff, management, R&D, and customers.
- Comfort working in both laboratory and industrial plant environments and interacting with a variety of people.
- Good short-term memory to manage multiple tasks and retain important information not always documented immediately.
- Computer proficiency using Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
