Overview:

HRU Technical Resources is partnering with a Michigan-based automotive supplier specializing in the casting, machining, coating, assembly, and engineering of precision brake and automotive components. Founded in 1996, our company supports major vehicle manufacturers with vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities, including foundry operations, high-volume CNC machining, paint/coating, sub-assembly, and product validation. We are seeking to hire a Quality Engineer working in Casting. This role is responsible for supporting casting quality, tooling design, and process improvement efforts within a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will focus on gating/risering design, defect analysis, and continuous improvement of casting processes to ensure product quality and performance. You will also be responsible for supervising Casting Tooling (patterns/core boxes) and Casting QA Techs. 

 

Essential Functions:

Casting Design & Tooling

  • Design and develop gating, risering, and runner systems for casting tooling
  • Support tooling for DISA Vertical and Georg Fischer Horizontal molding systems
  • Utilize CAD tools (CATIA or similar) to support design and development
  • Build and modify tooling components using hand and power tools

Quality & Defect Analysis

  • Investigate casting defects and lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans
  • Lead cross-functional teams to reduce scrap and improve product quality
  • Perform audits of non-conforming materials internally and at customer sites

Process Development & Improvement

  • Analyze customer designs, specifications, and requirements for feasibility and performance
  • Conduct trials, track results, and present findings
  • Recommend design and process improvements to optimize casting performance
  • Develop and test alternative designs and processing methods

Engineering & Technical Support

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Provide feedback to design engineers on product performance and customer issues
  • Support tooling maintenance and evaluation across facilities
  • Write performance requirements and technical documentation

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and support casting tooling teams and QA technicians
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams
  • Support company health, safety, and operational goals


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (4-year college or technical school) or equivalent experience.
  • 2 to 4+ years of related / relevant experience in casting or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of casting processes, gating, and risering design
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience with CAD software (CATIA, AutoCAD, or similar). 
  • Knowledge of ferrous materials and microstructures
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and projects


Preferred:

  • Experience with MagmaSoft simulation software
  • Background in high-volume or automotive casting environments


Work Environment:

  • This is a 1st (day) shift role. Typical hours are 6:30am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday. Candidates must be flexible as needed (occasional off shift support may be needed).
  • This will be an on-site role (no remote work). 
  • Up to 15-20% travel may be required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you will be regularly exposed to high temperatures. You will occasionally be exposed to vibration. You will regularly work near moving mechanical parts with repetitive motions.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Vision – near, distance, peripheral, depth perception
  • Sense of sound – 10db, audible to safety alarms
  • Sense of touch
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (all ACM requirements).
