Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Quality Engineer to join the Bobcat Quality team. The person will support setting up the Quality Management System for incoming quality inspection, root cause analysis, critical Li-ion Cathode material analysis, characterization data analysis, and reporting in both manufacturing and lab environments for our cutting-edge Tesla Cathode Manufacturing Plant.
The Cathode material is one of the most complex and challenging components designed and manufactured at Tesla. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of an incredibly exciting product.
The Quality Engineer will lead mass production Cathode projects that impact cell quality, Tesla product manufacturability, safety, cost, and field reliability, while working with a cross-functional team throughout the entire product lifecycle and launch into manufacturing. You will guide material design decisions, contribute to plant commissioning and product qualifications, specification alignment with suppliers and customers, and collaborate on cathode material and process product improvement projects.
The ideal candidate takes pride in his/her hands-on work, analytical ability, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Work collaboratively with Pilot Plant, Product Design, Equipment Engineering, Manufacturing, EPC, Safety, Production, Maintenance, and other cross-functional teams as the Cathode Quality expert to ensure production lines are designed and operated to produce high-quality, high-performance Cathode material.
Demonstrate strong sense of safety in all quality activities and drive the safety culture throughout the team. Define and establish incoming quality control tasks to ensure manufacturing capability and product reliability. Manage non-conforming material process flows and evaluate suspect materials while working closely with internal and external teams to quickly identify and resolve any material-related issues.
Work with the Quality, Production, and relevant cross-functional teams for new cathode plant commissioning, scale up, and product qualifications. Lead the identification, root cause analysis, and resolution of cathode-related manufacturing quality issues. Define containment and disposition criteria based on quality requirements. Monitor and report the First Pass Quality (FPQ) and Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) to the stakeholders on a routine basis.
Plan and participate in audits of Tesla and supplier manufacturing lines to ensure all processes follow the plan of record. Experience in new product launch from prototype to production. Experience commissioning new equipment and new processes into a production environment. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience creating various reports and database tools for management.
Ability to use technological tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data. Experience working with domestic and international vendors on technical projects. Structured problem-solving methodologies, such as DMAIC and 8D, etc.
Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing is highly desired. Programming skills in SQL, Python, MATLAB, R, etc. Familiarity with lab material characterization techniques, data analysis and visualization software, such as Tableau, JMP, Minitab, etc.
