Location Burns Harbor INCleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Quality Engineer at our Burns Harbor facility. The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting the daily quality activities including inspection testing ensuring quality system compliance reduction of wastenon-conforming material and metallurgical product improvement to make the highest quality steel. The ideal candidate will have prior steel industry experience in steel making hot rolling or cold rolling be self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with complex operations.Summary of ResponsibilitiesProvide metallurgical and technical support for product and process improvement through data analysis problem solving expertise in area of responsibility metallurgical and mechanical concepts and knowledge of customer operations and marketsProvide technical support for internal and external customer issuesAids field sales personnel in the resolution of any major quality issues and all other dutiesresponsibilities as may be requiredRegularly communicates customer problems to management and workforceAssists in development of corrective actionsReviews mills quality performance and assists in continuous improvement activitiesComply with safety quality and environmental standardsWork closely with operations engineering maintenance and other technical resources to drive results and improvement in the quality metricsPossess the ability to work effectively within a team environment utilizing clear and effective communication skillsOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsBachelors Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science or equivalent working experienceWorking knowledge of metallurgical principles and steel defect originsGood verbal and written communication skillsFamiliar with the Microsoft Office programs Word Excel PowerPoint and AccessProvide technical solutions and material selection recommendations for internal and external customers by understanding manufacturing and product capabilityInterpersonal skills and the ability to operate effectively within a team-oriented fast-paced environmentApplicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basisPreferred QualificationsTwo 2 years previous experience in an industrial or related environmentWorking knowledge of either steelmaking hot rolling or cold rollingDemonstrated success in defining and resolving problemsStrong analytical skillsRelocation assistance may be considered for highly qualified candidates from outside the local area.Cleveland-Cliffs is a leading North America-based steel producer with focus on value-added sheet products particularly for the automotive industry.
