Job Title: Quality Engineer
Job Description
The Quality Engineer ensures that products and processes consistently meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements within a highly technical manufacturing environment. This role focuses on developing and maintaining robust quality systems, leading root cause investigations, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and partnering closely with suppliers and internal teams to deliver safe, reliable, and high-performing products.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive quality control systems, procedures, and documentation to support consistent product quality.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable industry standards, regulations, and internal policies, and update quality processes as requirements evolve.
- Plan, conduct, and document internal quality audits and support external audits by customers, regulatory bodies, and certification agencies.
- Oversee and perform inspections of materials, components, in-process assemblies, and finished products to verify compliance with specifications and drawings.
- Develop and implement testing protocols, quality standards, and acceptance criteria to ensure products meet performance and safety requirements.
- Investigate product and process quality issues by performing structured root cause analysis using tools such as 8D, Fishbone diagrams, and 5-Why.
- Define, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions to address non-conformances, and track their effectiveness over time.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on non-conformance trends, using data to drive continuous improvement and defect reduction.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure incoming materials and components meet quality requirements and specifications.
- Conduct supplier audits and support supplier development initiatives to improve supplier performance and consistency.
- Lead and participate in quality improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization to enhance efficiency, reduce scrap and rework, and improve overall product quality.
- Apply statistical process control and trend analysis to monitor key process parameters and identify early indicators of quality issues.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of quality control activities, inspections, audits, and test results in accordance with quality system requirements.
- Prepare clear, data-driven quality reports and present findings, risks, and recommendations to management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by contributing to quality planning, PFMEA activities, validation testing, and launch readiness reviews.
- Partner with engineering, operations, and automation teams to implement new equipment, enhance process capability, and integrate quality controls into automated systems.
- Provide technical guidance and act as a quality leader within the engineering team, helping to prioritize and execute quality-related projects that the existing team cannot fully support due to workload.
- Contribute to a culture of problem solving, continuous improvement, and accountability, ensuring that quality considerations are embedded in daily operations.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing, automotive, or medical device-regulated environment.
- Bachelor"s degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- Hands-on experience developing, implementing, and maintaining quality systems aligned with standards such as ISO 9001.
- Proficiency in quality engineering tools and methodologies, including PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
- Demonstrated experience with statistical process control (SPC) and trend analysis to monitor and improve process performance.
- Practical experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions using structured methods such as 8D, Fishbone, and 5-Why.
- Experience using statistical software such as SQC Pack or Minitab to analyze data and support decision-making.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and their application to quality and process improvement.
- Exposure to continuous improvement initiatives and the ability to lead or support improvement projects.
- Familiarity with new product introduction (NPI) processes and the integration of quality requirements into product development.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate data and analysis into actionable improvements.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to present quality findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and supplier teams to resolve issues and improve overall quality performance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification or equivalent quality engineering experience.
- Proficiency in measurement, inspection, and testing methods, including the use and calibration of gauges and metrology equipment.
- Familiarity with government contracts and Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.
- Knowledge of regulatory and quality standards such as FDA regulations, AS9100, and IATF, particularly in regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience with supplier quality management, including supplier audits and development activities.
- Background in industries focused on safety-critical or impact-protection products is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to support automation initiatives by integrating quality controls into automated processes.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

The role operates in a modern, recently remodeled manufacturing facility that focuses on the production of advanced head protection systems. The environment emphasizes cleanliness and organization, with an extremely clean manufacturing floor and dedicated areas for collaboration and engagement, such as a game room space. The culture centers on a passion for product quality and a mission-driven focus on protecting individuals in demanding applications such as combat, rescue, and adventure. Team members work closely across engineering, operations, and quality functions, with increasing levels of automation being implemented throughout the facility. The work involves regular interaction with production lines, inspection and testing equipment, and quality system tools, supporting both existing products and new product introductions, including new foam formulations, chin straps, helmets, and shells.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $45.00/hr.
