Hiring for a Quality Engineer (2nd Shift) in East Hartford!

Job Description

This 2nd shift Quality Engineer position supports aerospace manufacturing operations in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. The role focuses on executing quality systems, managing nonconformances, and driving continuous improvement while partnering closely with cross-functional manufacturing teams. You will play a key role in ensuring product quality, leading root cause investigations, and supporting standardized processes across the shop floor.

Responsibilities

  • Execute First Article Inspections (FAI) to verify product conformity and ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Support manufacturing operations by enforcing and maintaining adherence to established quality processes and procedures.
  • Lead Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including planning, facilitation, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Facilitate problem resolution teams to address quality issues, identify systemic causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Manage nonconformance processes, including documentation, evaluation, corrective action tracking, and timely closure.
  • Review process plans, work instructions, and technical data to ensure alignment with standard work and applicable quality standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing defects, improving turnaround time, and lowering overall cost of quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and customer support teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
  • Apply data analysis techniques to identify trends, monitor performance, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, participating in assessments, and helping address audit findings.
  • Contribute to the maturation of quality systems and procedures by identifying gaps and recommending enhancements.
  • Provide quality oversight on the shop floor to ensure that products and processes meet aerospace standards and regulatory expectations.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing or maintenance environment, preferably in aerospace.
  • Hands-on experience with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies and structured problem-solving.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO-based quality management systems, including ISO 9001 and aerospace standards such as AS9100 or AS9110.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and document First Article Inspections (FAI) in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with nonconformance management, including documentation, corrective action tracking, and closure.
  • Background in audit activities, including participation in internal or external quality audits.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret and act on quality data.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards and regulations applicable to manufacturing or maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, and quality.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment with a strong emphasis on quality and turnaround time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with AS9100 or AS9110 aerospace quality standards.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Auditor certification related to quality management systems or aerospace standards.
  • Aerospace manufacturing or military aviation maintenance Background.
  • Experience in repair station or MRO environments.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License (nice to have).
  • Exposure to ISO 9010 or similar aerospace-specific standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement methodologies and defect reduction initiatives.
  • Interest in long-term growth within aerospace quality and complex quality systems.

Work Environment

This role is based on the aerospace manufacturing shop floor supporting highly regulated production operations on 2nd shift. The position operates within a union environment where Quality Engineers are responsible for inspection, analysis, and oversight, but do not perform physical modifications or hands-on work on the product. You will work in a highly collaborative setting, partnering closely with operations, engineering, and quality teams. The environment is fast-paced and production-driven, with a strong emphasis on quality, turnaround time, and continuous improvement. Processes are structured yet evolving, and you will work within standardized procedures while helping to improve and mature them through daily execution. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $56.00/hr.
