Engineer Product Performance - Solve Real Problems - Drive Improvement Across Operations - Suppliers, and Design.

We’re seeking a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join our Hobart Hillsboro manufacturing team in a highly collaborative, hands-on Quality Engineering role.

This position sits at the center of Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Suppliers, focused on solving real technical problems, improving product performance, and driving meaningful cost and quality improvements.

This is not a paperwork-driven role—this is a technical, impact-focused engineering position where you will help shape both current production and future products.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner daily with the Operations team to resolve production issues and improve manufacturing performance

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to drive product and process improvements

  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions (8D, 5 Why) for production and field issues

  • Work directly with suppliers to solve technical problems, improve quality, and reduce cost

  • Support New Product Development (NPD) to ensure new designs are robust and ready for production

  • Lead and support PPAP activities to validate product and process readiness

  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring effective corrective action, not just compliance

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability, yield, and cost performance

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Hands-on engineering role in a real manufacturing environment

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration across operations, engineering, and suppliers

  • Direct impact on quality, cost savings, and product performance

  • Influence both current production and new product development

  • Blend of technical problem solving and system-level quality engineering

  • Clear path toward technical leadership, operations, or advanced engineering roles

What We’re Looking For

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent experience)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset

  • Experience or exposure to:

  • Manufacturing or production environments

  • Root cause analysis and corrective actions

  • Supplier quality or supplier collaboration

  • PPAP, audits, or NPD support (preferred but not required)

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and drive outcomes

  • A hands-on approach with a focus on practical, sustainable solutions

Who This Role Is For

Engineers who:

  • Want to work closely with operations and on the plant floor

  • Enjoy solving real-world technical problems—not just designing parts

  • Are interested in supplier collaboration and continuous improvement

  • Want exposure to both production and new product development

  • Prefer roles where they can make a visible, measurable impact

The Opportunity

In this role, you won’t just track quality, you’ll engineer it.

You’ll play a critical role in connecting design, manufacturing, and supplier performance, ensuring products are reliable, cost-effective, and ready to perform in the real world.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related engineering field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience

5+ Years

  • Experience in using APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, Core Tools, GD&T, and First Article Inspections (FAIs)

  • Strong background in problem-solving, auditing, and continuous improvement within mechanical and electrical manufacturing environments

  • Experience in both Supplier Quality and Process Quality, driving performance improvements and ensuring compliance to print specifications & standards

Skills / Abilities

  • Hands-on expertise in part inspection and qualification, including APQP, PPAP, CTQ, AQL, and Layout Inspection methodologies

  • Detail-oriented project management experience with a focus on execution and results

  • Background in mechanical and electrical manufacturing and assembly

  • Strong mathematical aptitude and GD&T proficiency

  • Knowledge of Lean organizational systems, including 6S, Kanban, and Just-in-Time (JIT) principles

  • Clear and effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with presentation experience

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships

  • Skilled in resolving conflict constructively, promoting collaboration and alignment

  • Effective active listening and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and implement solutions

  • Strong analytical approach, capable of gathering information, navigating complex issues, and making timely decisions

  • Solid understanding and application of Statistical Process Control (SPC)

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • Work is performed across offices, laboratories, and manufacturing environments

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in manufacturing areas, including steel-toe shoes and safety glasses

  • Role requires regular standing, bending, stooping, and frequent use of hands and arms, along with walking throughout the facility

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Available for occasional travel to support troubleshooting and collaborative problem-solving with vendors, suppliers, production, quality, and engineering teams

Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
