Quality Engineer
Minneapolis, MN | Direct Hire | $80,000–$90,000
Are you a Quality Engineer who wants more ownership than simply processing NCRs and updating quality documentation?
An established Minneapolis-area manufacturer is looking for a Quality Engineer to become a key technical resource for quality across its manufacturing operation. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of quality initiatives, influence manufacturing processes, solve real production problems, and work directly with engineering and operational leadership.
You’ll support and improve the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System, lead root cause and corrective action efforts, partner with suppliers and customers, and use quality data to drive measurable improvements on the manufacturing floor.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the combination of hands-on manufacturing, problem-solving, continuous improvement, and QMS ownership rather than spending the entire day behind a desk.
Quality Engineer Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary quality resource for the manufacturing operation, working closely with Engineering, Production, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Service.
- Maintain and continuously improve the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System, including supporting internal and external audits.
- Lead investigations into manufacturing and product quality issues using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis, Pareto Analysis, root cause analysis, and CAPA.
- Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions that reduce defects, scrap, rework, and recurring manufacturing issues.
- Establish inspection methods and quality plans for incoming materials, in-process manufacturing, and finished products.
- Analyze quality data and manufacturing trends to identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Investigate customer quality concerns and coordinate effective, timely resolutions.
- Work directly with suppliers to address material quality issues, support supplier qualification, and improve supplier performance.
- Partner with Engineering on new products, product changes, and manufacturing processes to ensure quality requirements are built in from the beginning.
- Track quality metrics including scrap, rework, customer complaints, internal defects, and audit performance.
- Support calibration and control of measuring and testing equipment.
- Provide quality guidance and training to employees while helping strengthen a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Quality Engineer Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred, but equivalent hands-on manufacturing quality experience will be considered.
- 3+ years of quality engineering or manufacturing quality experience.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Hands-on experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, CAPA, audits, and structured problem-solving.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment.
- Comfort working directly on the production floor and collaborating with employees across multiple departments.
Benefits:
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
- Paid time off
- 401k with employer match or contribution
- Pet insurance
