Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Tunneling Quality Engineer / Quality Control Staff to support underground construction projects in the San Jose area. This role is responsible for ensuring that all tunneling and related construction activities meet project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience in heavy civil or underground construction and a strong understanding of QA/QC processes within tunneling environments.Key Responsibilities Implement and maintain the project‑specific Quality Management Plan (QMP) for tunneling operationsPerform daily inspections and quality control checks for tunneling activities (e.g., TBM operations, microtunneling, shaft construction, ground support systems)Ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable codes and standardsReview and track submittals, RFIs, inspection requests, and material certificationsCoordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and project engineers to address and resolve quality issuesDocument and track non‑conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actionsMonitor installation of critical components such as liners, segments, pipe, grouting, and waterproofing systemsMaintain accurate and organized quality records, inspection logs, and reporting documentationParticipate in pre-construction meetings, quality audits, and owner/third‑party inspectionsSupport testing and verification processes, including concrete, soils, and material testingCollaborate with project management and field supervision to ensure continuous quality improvementRequired Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience)Experience working on heavy civil or underground construction projects (tunneling experience strongly preferred)Strong understanding of QA/QC processes, procedures, and documentation in constructionAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reportsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)Strong organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with field and office teamsPreferred Qualifications Direct experience on tunneling projects (TBM, NATM, or microtunneling)Familiarity with applicable standards (ASTM, ACI, Caltrans, or project‑specific specifications)Experience with quality management systems and digital reporting toolsCertifications such as ACI, NICET, or related quality/inspection credentials#J-18808-Ljbffr
