Location: Stratford, CT (Relocating to Wallingford, CT within 12 Months)
Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 + Annual Performance Bonus
Employment Type: Direct Hire, Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1st Shift
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer with leadership potential to help drive the next phase of growth within an aerospace manufacturing operation. This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on quality professional to make an immediate impact by improving processes, developing quality systems, and supporting a facility transition and expansion.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong aerospace manufacturing background and enjoy working closely with production teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring products meet required quality standards and specifications throughout the manufacturing process. This role requires a strong understanding of quality assurance methodologies, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and implement quality control plans, inspection criteria, testing procedures, SOPs, work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Monitor and evaluate production processes, identifying areas for improvement while ensuring adherence to quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for product defects and non-conformances and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Support and maintain ISO-compliant quality systems and processes.
Inspection and Testing
  • Oversee in-process and final inspections utilizing various measuring tools and techniques to assess product quality.
  • Coordinate and perform audits of manufacturing processes and systems to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Manage inspection documentation and maintain quality-related records for traceability and analysis.
  • Review engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, specifications, and customer requirements.
Continuous Improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and industry best practices.
  • Analyze quality data, metrics, and performance trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to improve product quality and process efficiency.
  • Support process optimization and operational excellence initiatives throughout the facility.
Training and Support
  • Provide training and support to production personnel on quality standards, inspection techniques, and best practices.
  • Assist in the development of training materials, quality manuals, and quality procedures.
  • Act as a liaison between Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing departments to promote a culture of quality throughout the organization.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to the quality inspection team.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Prepare and present quality reports and metrics to management, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure all quality documentation is maintained accurately and in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Support customer audits, internal audits, certifications, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation for customer audits and certifications.
Qualifications
Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, or a related technical field preferred.
  • 5+ years of Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Manufacturing Quality experience.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Sheet metal manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar.
  • Experience developing SOPs, work instructions, and quality procedures.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with quality inspection tools and methodologies including:
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
    • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
    • Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Familiarity with CAD software and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and process optimization techniques.
