Job Description: Quality Inspector - 1st Shift

This role focuses on performing precise quality inspections for electro-mechanical and electronics manufacturing, with an emphasis on incoming inspection, measurement, and documentation of non-conformities. The Quality Inspector interprets engineering and manufacturing drawings, uses a variety of inspection tools and gages, and ensures that parts and assemblies meet established quality standards. This position supports a high-volume electronics manufacturing environment and contributes directly to consistent product quality and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming inspection of parts and materials to ensure they meet specified requirements and quality standards.
  • Measure parts using micrometers, calipers, gages, and other inspection tools, and compare results to engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Interpret manufacturing and engineering drawings, including understanding dimensions, tolerances, drawing notes, and measurement requirements.
  • Conduct visual inspections and use basic measuring tools to verify product quality and identify defects or non-conformities.
  • Document non-conformities accurately and completely, including recording inspection results and maintaining quality documentation.
  • Update inspection reports and related quality records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Use quality inspection tools and gages correctly and safely to perform detailed measurements and checks.
  • Support quality control processes for circuit board manufacturing, PCBA, and electro-mechanical assemblies when applicable.
  • Assist in creating and performing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) when required.
  • Contribute to activities related to PPAPs, PFMEA, and control plans as needed to support continuous improvement and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with quality technicians, production teams, and engineering to communicate inspection findings and support corrective actions.
  • Follow established quality procedures and inspection standards to maintain consistency and compliance.
  • Maintain an organized work area and care for inspection tools and equipment to ensure accurate measurements.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in quality inspection, gage calibration, or a quality technician role.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and various gages.
  • Ability to interpret manufacturing and engineering drawings, including reading dimensions, tolerances, and notes.
  • Experience measuring parts and comparing results to blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Hands-on experience performing quality inspections using both visual methods and basic measuring tools.
  • Strong understanding of quality control principles and inspection practices.
  • Ability to complete and update inspection reports and quality documentation accurately.
  • Attention to detail and strong observational skills for identifying defects and non-conformities.
  • Basic familiarity with quality documentation processes and recordkeeping.
  • Comfort working in an electronics manufacturing or similar production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in electronics, including circuit board manufacturing, PCBA, or electro-mechanical manufacturing.
  • Experience in working with schematics or electronics-related documentation.
  • Experience creating and performing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs).
  • Exposure to Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities.
  • Experience drafting Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and control plans.
  • Prior experience in a contract manufacturing environment for electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong communication skills to report inspection findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage inspection tasks in a fast-paced production setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Long Grove, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
