The primary purpose of a Quality Inspector is to perform first article, in-process, and final inspections in support of manufacturing operations. The Quality Inspector ensures that products conform to engineering drawings, specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct first article, in-process, and final inspections using standard measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
Verify product quality and conformance to applicable drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
Complete required inspection documentation and maintain accurate quality records.
Make informed decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of products based on established specifications and engineering requirements.
Identify, document, and control nonconforming materials or products in accordance with quality procedures.
Track and record inspection activities and labor as required.
Prioritize inspection workload to support production schedules and minimize potential disruptions.
Communicate inspection findings to manufacturing personnel and assist in resolving quality-related issues.
Maintain compliance with applicable quality management system requirements.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Proficiency with standard computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
Ability to use standard measuring equipment and perform dimensional and layout inspections.
Understanding of quality management systems and manufacturing quality standards.
Experience performing measurement system analysis, including gage repeatability and reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies.
Familiarity with calibration systems and inspection equipment control.
Knowledge of welding inspection practices is beneficial.
Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) operation and programming is preferred but not required.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform inspections at external locations when required.
Collaborate with production, engineering, and other departments to investigate and resolve quality issues.
Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
Assist in developing inspection methods and procedures for new products and processes.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and manufacturing processes.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of two years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
Relevant post-secondary education may be substituted for a portion of the required experience.
Professional certifications related to quality inspection or CMM operation are preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
Ability to perform inspections in a production setting while using standard measuring and testing equipment.
