Quality Inspector

Position Summary

IFAB Corp is seeking a Quality Inspector to support quality control for metal fabricated automotive components across our manufacturing operations, including heavy stamping, welding, laser cutting, forming, CNC machining, e-coat, powder coat, and final inspection.

The Quality Inspector is responsible for verifying that incoming materials, in-process parts, finished components, and coated products meet customer specifications, engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, internal standards, and applicable quality system requirements. This role requires hands-on inspection experience, strong attention to detail, the ability to use precision measuring tools, and the confidence to identify, document, contain, and communicate quality issues on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities

1. Inspection and Measurement by Process

  • Stamping, Forming & Laser: Inspect parts for defects such as splits, cracks, wrinkles, excessive burrs, die marks, distortion, springback, edge quality, flatness, bend angles, and dimensional variation.

  • Weld Inspection: Perform visual inspection of welded components for weld size, location, profile, porosity, undercut, spatter, burn-through, cracks, distortion, fit-up, and overall workmanship.

  • CNC Machining: Inspect parts for dimensional accuracy, hole size, thread quality, surface finish, and critical-to-quality characteristics.

  • E-Coat & Powder Coat: Inspect for coating coverage, dry film thickness, adhesion, cure, color, gloss, contamination, orange peel, craters, chips, bare spots, and runs using thickness gages and visual standards.

  • CMM Operation: Operate CMM equipment and execute established CMM programs as required.

2. Quality Control & Containment

  • Conduct receiving, first-piece/first-off, first article (FAI), in-process, last-piece/last-off, final, rework, and containment inspections.

  • Identify, tag, segregate, and document nonconforming material (NCRs).

  • Initiate and support containment activities to prevent defective product from moving to the next operation or shipping to the customer.

  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions (5-Why, Fishbone diagrams, Pareto analysis, 8D, and CAPA).

3. Documentation, Traceability & Support

  • Record inspection results accurately in quality systems, ERP systems, Excel logs, layout reports, and SPC records.

  • Maintain full traceability for inspected parts, raw materials, and purchased components.

  • Support PPAP, APQP, control plan verification, and customer-specific documentation.

  • Verify incoming raw materials against purchase orders, drawings, and Certificates of Conformance.

  • Coach operators on basic defect recognition, gage use, inspection requirements, and reaction plans.

  • Support internal, customer, and layered process audits (IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 compliance).

Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Technical certification in manufacturing, quality, metrology, machining, welding, or related field is preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably automotive, metal fabrication, stamping, welding, machining, or coating).

  • Technical Skills:

    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), work instructions, and control plans.

    • Hands-on experience with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gages, plug/thread/bore/go/no-go gages, and fixtures).

  • Systems: Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, ERP, or QMS data entry).

  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to make independent, accurate pass/fail decisions under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Experience operating CMM equipment or executing programs (PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, CMM Manager, etc.).

  • Experience with advanced metrology tools (FARO Arm, Hexagon arm, optical comparator, profilometer).

  • Weld inspection training or certifications (AWS, CWI, CAWI).

  • Experience reviewing material certifications and supplier inspection records.

Our Benefits!

  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision health insurance.

  • Paid company holidays.

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) and vacation days.
