To support the Analytical Chemist and Chemist in sample preparation for analysis. Assist with standard-making and instrumentation.
Dimensions of Position:
Safe operation of the Analytical Lab and improvement of the plant safety culture
Timely, accurate, and precise chemical analysis
Key Result Areas:
Conduct chemical or physical laboratory tests to assist chemist in making qualitative or quantitative analyses of materials.
Maintain, clean, or sterilize laboratory instruments or equipment.
Set up and conduct chemical experiments, tests, and analyses, using techniques such as grinding, cleaning of glasswork, and sample preparation.
Monitor product quality to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
Prepare chemical solutions for products or processes, following standardized formulas, or create experimental formulas.
Evaluating information to determine compliance with standards — using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
Documenting/Recording Information
Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates — providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Required
Associate’s Degree preferred
Experience:
1-3 years’ experience working in a lab environment
Knowledge
Chemistry — Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
Mathematics — Knowledge of basic arithmetic

The Lab Technician is expected to evaluate information to determine compliance with standards. Any abnormalities or complex decisions will be elevated to the Chemist of Lab Manager.
