The Quality Lab Technician inspects raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure they meet established quality standards and customer requirements. This role supports manufacturing operations by performing laboratory and quality testing, documenting results, identifying quality issues, and collaborating with production teams to drive continuous improvement. Safety, accuracy, and strong attention to detail are essential, as the technician helps maintain consistent product quality in a bakery plant and laboratory environment, with potential for long-term growth.

Responsibilities

• Conduct quality testing on raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products to verify compliance with specifications and quality standards.
• Perform laboratory testing on raw materials and finished products using appropriate methods and equipment.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections using standard measuring tools and equipment to confirm product conformance.
• Verify product conformance to established specifications and quality requirements and escalate issues when necessary.
• Collect product samples and perform routine testing procedures in accordance with documented methods.
• Record inspection and test results accurately and maintain complete, organized quality documentation.
• Assist in investigating product defects, nonconforming materials, and other quality concerns to determine root causes.
• Communicate quality issues clearly and promptly to production leadership and manufacturing personnel.
• Support incoming material inspections and supplier quality verification activities to ensure material quality.
• Participate in product evaluations and process audits to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Utilize computer systems to enter data, generate quality reports, and maintain electronic records.
• Follow established testing procedures, work instructions, and quality standards at all times.
• Maintain laboratory and inspection equipment in a clean, calibrated, and organized condition.
• Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
• Collaborate with production teams to improve product quality and reduce defects across manufacturing processes.
• Train and support employees on quality procedures and testing methods as needed.
• Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in both the lab and production areas.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support quality and manufacturing operations.

Essential Skills

• Experience in quality control, laboratory work, inspection, or manufacturing, with a minimum of one year preferred.
• Ability to perform laboratory testing, including basic chemistry and biology-related procedures.
• Proficiency in quality assurance and quality control practices in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to perform titration and other common laboratory testing techniques.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when inspecting products and recording data.
• Ability to use standard measuring tools and equipment for visual and dimensional inspections.
• Comfort with using computer systems to enter data, generate reports, and maintain records.
• Ability to follow written testing procedures, work instructions, and quality standards.
• Strong communication skills to effectively report quality issues and collaborate with production teams.
• Ability to work 3rd shift as required by the operation.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Degree in a technical life science discipline, such as chemistry, biology, or a related field, is preferred.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly food or bakery production, is highly desired.
• Prior experience in laboratory environments handling raw materials and finished products.
• Familiarity with continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
• Ability to train and support other employees on quality procedures and testing methods.
• Interest in long-term career growth, with potential for conversion to a permanent role.

Work Environment

This position operates within a bakery plant and laboratory setting, supporting production on a 3rd shift schedule. The work involves time in both the lab and manufacturing floor, handling raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods. The role requires regular use of laboratory instruments, standard measuring tools, and computer systems for data entry and reporting. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.55 - $24.55/hr.
