The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring that products consistently meet established quality standards through hands-on inspection, measurement, and process verification. This position oversees daily quality activities, verifies product conformance to specifications, assists production personnel in maintaining quality standards, and works collaboratively with operations to identify and resolve quality concerns while promoting continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Perform and oversee inspections of finished products and work-in-process materials to verify compliance with company quality standards.
Utilize precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, thickness gauges, tape measures, and other inspection tools to verify product dimensions and specifications.
Inspect products for visual defects, dimensional accuracy, thickness, color, finish, and overall conformance to customer and engineering specifications.
Monitor production processes to ensure consistent adherence to quality standards and established procedures.
Identify, document, and communicate quality concerns to production leadership and recommend corrective actions.
Investigate product defects and assist with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
Maintain inspection records, quality documentation, and nonconformance reports.
Train production employees on quality expectations, inspection techniques, and proper measurement methods.
Verify first article inspections and perform routine quality audits throughout production.
Assist in developing and maintaining work instructions, inspection procedures, and quality documentation.
Coordinate containment activities for nonconforming materials and products.
Support customer complaint investigations and corrective action activities as needed.
Promote continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, improve product quality, and increase manufacturing efficiency.
Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
Ability to accurately read blueprints, specifications, work instructions, and product drawings.
Demonstrated experience using calipers, micrometers, thickness gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
Ability to distinguish visual defects, dimensional inconsistencies, and cosmetic imperfections.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain accurate inspection records and documentation.
Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems.
Ability to work independently while effectively leading quality activities on the manufacturing floor.
Ability to work collaboratively with production, maintenance, and engineering personnel.
Ability to prioritize multiple inspections and quality concerns in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk throughout the manufacturing facility for extended periods.
Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach while performing inspections.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
Ability to distinguish colors, identify visual imperfections, and perform close-up inspections.
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate precision measuring equipment.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment and varying temperatures.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
3–5 years of manufacturing quality experience required.
Experience performing visual inspections and dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, thickness gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards preferred.
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge of quality systems, inspection techniques, and continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office and quality documentation software.
