Position

Digi International has an excellent opportunity for a Quality Assurance Manager II. This position Ensures quality assurance and compliance in design/development, production, logistics, installation and service. Facilitates quality improvement and customer satisfaction throughout the organization. Ensures application of quality standards to new, existing and legacy products. Serve as a key customer contact on quality issues. Background in electronic assembly and test is a must. Working knowledge of IPC-A-610, IPC-A-600, and IPC-J-STD-001 Establish, design and drive the implementation of supplier, including CM and ODM suppliers, product quality improvement by using, incoming inspection, in process, test and in repair activities, to define product reliability issues and re-design opportunities to increase yields and lower overall RMA as a percent of shipment. The role will use in process, test, incoming inspection, and repair activities create quality analysis studies to define changes in production process, test, product design, manufacturing testing/build-process and service trouble-shooting methods. Be a member of project teams in assessing and improving product quality. Provide key quality reports and measurements of product quality. Interact with Customers, Service, Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Procurement/Purchasing, Vendors, Contract Manufacturers and ODM's, and Repair Centers. Participates and contributes to Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR's) with both customers and suppliers. Establish and maintain customer satisfaction improvement at the Executive level by working with functional areas to define KPI's and metrics.

What You Will Do

  • Establishes and Maintains the Quality System: Documents and maintains a quality system that ensures action to prevent the occurrence of product nonconformity and minimizes risk to an acceptable level; identifies and records product quality problems; initiates, recommends or provides solutions though designated channels; verifies the implementation of solutions; controls further processing, delivery or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency has been corrected.
  • Implements and maintains RoHS, Reach Standards.
  • Drive improvements of Digi products and services through corrective action system.
  • Be able to develop and analyze AIAG PPAP documentation, typically level III.
  • Maintains Supplier Confidence: Keeps acceptance rate, price, delivery and quality information confidential.
  • Determines Quality Improvement Parameters: Identifies statistical methods for testing and trend of information relevant to the manufacturing process, final quality audits incoming materials and parts. Actively participates in design, manufacturing and system verification testing. Reviews quality standards, tolerances and engineering changes, evaluating changes for rework of parts and assemblies. Ensures correct & timely ECO incorporations & product configurations.
  • Analyzes Data and Prepares Reports: Collects, analyzes and summarizes testing data from incoming, in process, final acceptance, quality audit testing and customer returns. Measures results by collecting, maintaining and interpreting quality performance data (customer, design, test error, supplier); tracking process improvement team projects implementation; managing customer opinion survey. Quality customer liaison including customer audits
  • ISO Implementation/Maintenance Team Member: Facilitates the implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001. Performs pre-audits, assigns tasks to departments and individuals. Establishes and maintains an implementation/maintenance project plan. Selects and interfaces with ISO certification body. Interfaces with the certification body during the audits and implementation. For those customers using medical device related products understand and implement the requirements of ISO 13485.
  • Resolves Quality Issues: Identifies problems, examines and recommends solutions options: implements corrective actions plans. Facilitate Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA). Control plans and First Article Submittals.
  • Production Identification System: Establishes and maintains a system to identify conforming and nonconforming material.
  • Defines and Implements Corrective Action Process: Publishes quality policies and procedures for identification and segregation of nonconforming materials. Develops documents and implements a corrective action process. Promotes interest in Quality Improvement Efforts. Publicizes project results. Facilitates process, test error measurement, supplier and design corrective and preventative actions.
  • Recognizes Improvements: Develops and implements recognition programs and rewards systems for quality, cost or cycle-times/speed improvements attained in the organization. Informs employs of quality measurements and results, and suggestions implemented; writing articles for quality newsletter
  • Performs Internal Audits: Performs internal documented audits to verify whether the organization complies with documented procedures.
  • Accepts Material: Evaluated all results and visually inspects incoming materials. Determines status of non-shippable or non-usable materials. Notifies supplier of acceptance issues, answers questions; responds to requests for failure information and trends. Establishes and maintains positive communication with suppliers and potential suppliers. Performs functions to supervise inspection and quality control operations, involving incoming materials and those in process, and sampling final test inspection of finished goods, to meet standards. Establishes, manages and performs Quality Assurance Product Audit testing.
  • Establishes and Maintains Inspection and Test Records Retention Systems: Retains records that indicate passed inspection or test with defines acceptance criteria (records may be hard or soft copy). Quality records list will show description, storage location, retention time, parent procedure or work instruction and disposition.
  • Establishes Sampling Plan: Applies attribute, variable and sequential sampling methods to ensure product conformance to customer specifications.
  • Meets Quality Standards: Generates policy and objectives for quality. Ensures the policy is implemented and understood. Develops documents and procedures. Develops weekly reports metrics covering, product quality level, delivery schedule, and quantity shipped (under/over to purchase order). Reports weekly metrics on in process, final and quality audit testing. Ensures metrics are used to improve the process.
  • Continuing Education: Maintain profession and technical knowledge by attending American Society of Quality Control (ASQC) educational workshops, reviewing publications; establishing personnel networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
  • Cost: Responsible for reducing the cost of quality. Reports cost avoidance.
  • Demonstrated abilities to accurately scope, plan and schedule complex projects (0-5 months with 0-3 engineers) and meet project plans. Has knowledge of systems analysis and requirements definition skills, capability to mentor and provide technical guidance junior engineers, technicians and provide solutions to complex quality issues.
  • Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable in determining technical objectives and assignments. Completed work is reviews from a relatively medium-term perspective, for desired results. Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult problems associate with specific projects. Erroneous decisions or recommendations might cause delays in program scheduled and result in the allocation of more resources.
  • Other: Promptly completes all assignments delegated by management discretion.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's degree in engineering required. 5-7 years experience in quality or an equivalent role required; M.S 2-5 yrs experience; Ph.D with 0-2 years experience.
  • Computer Literate: Intermediate PC skill using Windows, Office applications, and PLM and ERP tools;
  • Communication Skills: Works wells with customers, fellow employees, suppliers and management. Able to train employees. Operates in a team environment. Produces concise, accurate, understandable reports, memos and other written communication in a timely manner. Communicates information clearly; answers inquiries accurately and timely. Expresses opinions in a professional manner. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $95,000 - $149,000. Pay ranges are determined by role, job level and primary job location. The range displayed reflects the reasonable range we anticipate paying for this position and reflects the cost of labor within several U.S. geographic markets. The specific salary offered within the range will depend on various factors including, but not limited to the candidate's relevant and prior experience, education, skills, and primary work location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each position. Pay ranges are typically reviewed and updated annually.
