Job Description

The Quality Supervisor oversees a team of quality technicians, a quality lead, and operators in a GMP-regulated food manufacturing environment. This role performs basic laboratory tests, monitors product quality on the production line, and ensures compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. The Quality Supervisor follows established standard operating procedures, maintains accurate documentation, supports audits and investigations, and plays a key role in training and scheduling within the quality department.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team
  • Perform basic laboratory tests on in-process and finished products, including pH and fat analysis.
  • Collect samples from the production line and verify packaging integrity and grain weight according to specifications.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) to perform testing, inspections, and quality checks.
  • Document test results and quality data accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring complete and compliant records.
  • Review batch records to confirm that production and quality requirements are met and properly documented.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation, answering questions, and supporting corrective actions.
  • Follow up on quality and safety programs, including sanitation, GMP compliance, and allergen control.
  • Support finished product testing to verify that products meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in investigations related to nonconformances, customer complaints, or deviations, and help implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Train new employees on quality procedures, laboratory testing methods, GMP requirements, and documentation practices.
  • Help with scheduling within the quality team to ensure adequate coverage and support for production demands.
  • Provide hands-on support on the production floor and in the lab, stepping in to assist the team as needed.
  • Promote food safety, USDA, FDA, HACCP, and other regulatory and customer requirements in all quality activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including food science, R&D, and operations, to support continuous improvement of products and processes.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma.
  • At least 4 years of quality experience within a regulated environment, ideally in food manufacturing.
  • At least 1 year of lead or supervisory experience, preferably in a quality function.
  • Experience in quality control and quality assurance within food manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of GMP requirements and their application in a food production setting.
  • Ability to perform basic laboratory tests, including pH and fat analysis.
  • Experience with quality assurance documentation and batch record review.
  • Understanding of food safety principles and regulatory requirements, including USDA and FDA.
  • Familiarity with HACCP programs and allergen control.
  • Ability to follow SOPs precisely and maintain accurate, compliant documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and address quality issues.
  • Effective communication skills for training, coordinating schedules, and working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience or exposure to food science, microbiology, or related disciplines.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment within food manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with research and development (R&D) activities related to food products.
  • Experience supporting audits and investigations in a regulated manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a team-oriented environment and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules to support production and business demands.

Work Environment

This role is based in a GMP-regulated food manufacturing facility on first shift, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and they are currently working mandatory Saturdays. The Quality Supervisor is responsible for first shift quality operations The work environment is production-driven and requires flexibility; team members may need to start earlier or stay later when production demands increase. The culture emphasizes supporting business needs, teamwork, and maintaining a positive attitude. Dress code is casual, with jeans and short- or long-sleeve shirts acceptable. Steel-toed shoes are required in the plant, and the facility provides lab coats, hair and beard nets, and other necessary protective equipment. As a GMP-regulated environment, there are strict rules to prevent contamination, including no jewelry, fake nails, or any items that could pose a risk of falling into food products.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Janesville, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $38.46/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
