Lead Quality From the Ground Up

Picture your morning starting on the shop floor—walking past weld booths and overhead cranes—before heading into a stand-up with Engineering and Operations. You review overnight inspection findings, align on corrective actions, then finalize a new inspection plan that will prevent rework on the next build. By afternoon, you’re closing out a CAPA, verifying traceability on incoming steel, and preparing customer test documentation for a successful shipment. This is a true build-it role: you will design, implement, and own the quality system in a growing heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Own

  • Design, roll out, and maintain the full quality management framework—procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, and document control with rigorous revision tracking.
  • Lead nonconformance handling end-to-end (NCRs), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and disciplined root-cause analysis to drive sustainable fixes.
  • Build and manage calibration programs, quality records, and welding qualification documentation; keep audit trails clean and accessible.
  • Oversee in-process and final inspections; coordinate and record load tests; review NDT/NDE results and certifications to validate product integrity.
  • Verify incoming material conformance and traceability; maintain comprehensive inspection and audit records.
  • Present meaningful quality metrics to leadership; track scrap, rework, NCR closure rates, and first-pass yield to guide decisions.

How You’ll Partner

  • Collaborate with Engineering to embed quality into designs and ensure manufacturability.
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Production to tighten process execution and minimize rework.
  • Interface professionally with customers, third-party inspectors, and auditors.

Compliance and Improvement

  • Champion adherence to relevant industrial and welding standards and keep the organization audit-ready at all times.
  • Continuously improve processes and preventive controls; ensure corrective actions are implemented, verified, and sustained.

Must-Have Background

  • 5+ years in quality within heavy industrial manufacturing such as fabrication, welding, structural steel, or heavy equipment.
  • Proven experience creating quality procedures, inspection plans, and documentation systems.
  • Fluency in welding inspection, blueprint interpretation, GD&T, and dimensional verification.
  • Hands-on NCR/CAPA leadership plus strong technical writing and analytical capability.
  • Comfort operating in both shop and office settings—equally effective on the floor and at the keyboard.

Preferred Credentials

  • AWS CWI certification; ISO 9001 familiarity; ASQ certifications.
  • NDT/NDE background; Lean or Six Sigma exposure.
  • Experience in overhead cranes, lifting equipment, or material-handling products.

Essential Trade Experience

Direct experience with welding (MIG, Flux-Cored, TIG), fitting, electrical work, and reading blueprints/schematics is required.

Capabilities We’ll Count On

  • Quality inspection expertise; quality control experience; quality control data analysis.
  • 5 Why root-cause analysis and fishbone (Ishikawa) problem solving.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and general maintenance/repair skills.
  • Electrical schematics and electrical schematic reading; electrical/electronic systems fundamentals.
  • Electrical troubleshooting; electrical systems diagnostics & repair; electrical repair, including heavy equipment electrical systems diagnostics.
  • Crane & lifting equipment systems knowledge and safe crane operation.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Tools & Equipment You’ll Use

  • MIG Welder; Flux-Cored Arc Welder; TIG Welder.
  • Overhead cranes, including brands such as Liebherr, Konecranes, Tadano, Terex, Manitowoc, Demag, and SANY.

Who Thrives Here

  • Detail-driven professionals who spot the subtle issues others miss.
  • Leaders who bring process, consistency, and thorough documentation.
  • People confident enough to push back—professionally—when quality or safety could be compromised.
  • Calm, credible influencers who earn trust through accuracy and follow-through.

This is a highly visible role with long-term growth potential inside a company investing significantly in engineering and operations. If you’re energized by building robust systems and delivering right-first-time results, we’d like to meet you.
