    Description

    Position Summary:

    The Quality Technician II performs advanced quality inspection, testing, auditing, and compliance verification activities in a high-volume manufacturing environment producing ventilation products, including attic vents and powered attic fans. This position serves as a primary quality resource on the manufacturing floor and supports compliance with company quality standards.

    The Quality Technician II conducts in-process and incoming inspections, performs product testing, supports external audits, assists with investigations of nonconforming products, and exercises authority to contain or stop production when product safety, code compliance, or quality requirements are at risk. This role also provides guidance and training to Quality Technician I personnel and supports continuous improvement initiatives through accurate data collection and reporting.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    General Responsibilities

    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to employee safety, product safety, regulatory compliance, and quality excellence.
    • Perform and document daily production line quality audits.
    • Conduct required product testing to verify quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
    • Promote adherence to company quality policies, procedures, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
    • Serve as a quality resource for production personnel and provide guidance on quality-related concerns.
    • Exercise sound judgment when evaluating product quality, safety, and compliance issues.
    • Escalate significant quality, safety, or compliance concerns to the Quality Supervisor and appropriate leadership.

    Quality Operations

    • Perform and document in-process quality audits on all active production lines to verify compliance with approved specifications, engineering drawings, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
    • Verify product conformance to applicable certification, code, and safety requirements, and other approved product standards.
    • Conduct required product testing, including Hi-Pot testing, run-check verification, water intrusion testing, and other validation activities as required.
    • Review production setups and approve In-Process Control (IPC) products prior to production startup.
    • Perform incoming inspection and verification of raw materials, including sheet metal coils and purchased components, to ensure compliance with approved specifications.
    • Inspect and verify conformance of finished goods received from third-party manufacturers and suppliers.
    • Maintain product identification, traceability, and labeling controls throughout manufacturing processes.
    • Verify proper operation and condition of inspection and test equipment, including Hi-Pot testers, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related quality instruments.
    • Monitor testing and inspection activities to ensure compliance with documented procedures and regulatory requirements.
    • Document audit findings, inspection results, test data, and quality observations in applicable electronic and manual systems.
    • Support containment activities for nonconforming materials, including segregation, identification, documentation, and disposition processing.
    • Initiate and maintain hold status for nonconforming materials and products in accordance with established procedures.
    • Exercise authority to stop production operations when product safety, code compliance, certification requirements, or critical quality standards are compromised.
    • Report equipment malfunctions, process abnormalities, and quality risks to appropriate departments for resolution.

    Quality Team Support:

    • Participate in daily "Toolbox Talks" to review prior-day issues, quality performance, equipment needs, safety concerns, and corrective action follow-up.
    • Support special projects, including material substitution evaluations and customer complaint investigations.
    • Provide coverage in other functional areas as needed to address absences, workload balancing, or peak production periods.
    • Assist with reporting production metrics, cycle counts, scrap data, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) as assigned.
    • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to promote continuous improvement and waste reduction.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and/or Experience:

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Associate degree in Quality, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
    • Minimum three (3) years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, including industries such as building products, HVAC, aerospace, automotive, metal fabrication, or related manufacturing experience.
    • Experience supporting regulated manufacturing environments and third-party certification audits preferred.
    • Experience with ISO 9001-based quality systems preferred.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong understanding of manufacturing quality principles and inspection techniques.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and work instructions.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product safety and compliance.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to make independent quality decisions within established procedures.
    • Ability to train and mentor less experienced quality personnel.
    • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficient use of calipers, micrometers, gauges, and precision measuring equipment.
    • Proficient Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
    • Basic understanding of statistical and trend data reporting.
    • Ability to document inspection results and maintain quality records electronically.
    • Basic Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP
    • Able to read engineering drawings and schematics.
    • Experience with electronic quality management systems (QMS) preferred.

    Preferred

    • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
    • Experience with electronic Quality Management Systems (eQMS).
    • Familiarity with regulatory and certification requirements applicable to electrical or ventilation products.
    • Understanding of nonconforming material control and corrective action processes.

    Licenses / Certifications:

    • ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) preferred but not required.
    • Internal auditor training or quality systems training preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
    • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for prolonged durations, including gloves, cut-resistant sleeves, eye protection, hearing protection, respiratory protection, and protective garments
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday

    Work Conditions:

    • Manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory, and office environments.
    • Extended standing and walking required.
    • May require overtime, weekend work, or adjusted schedules to support production and audit activities.
    • Exposure to noise, temperature variations, moving mechanical equipment, and industrial manufacturing processes.
