Quality Technician

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
Shift: 2nd shift 1:30pm-10:00pm
Location: Decatur, AL
Position Type: Temp-to-hire


Position Summary


We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Technician to support manufacturing operations by performing inspections, audits, and quality assurance activities that ensure products meet customer and company standards. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience using precision measuring equipment, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Perform first article inspections on sheet metal parts and assemblies according to established procedures, specifications, and engineering documentation.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to verify product compliance.

  • Utilize precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, pin/plug gauges, indicators, surface plates, and other inspection equipment.

  • Conduct receiving inspections of raw materials and components as required.

  • Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and quality documentation.

  • Verify that in-process inspections and audits are completed and properly documented.

  • Perform Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R) studies and correlation analyses as required.

  • Collect, analyze, and report quality-related data using statistical methods.

  • Assist with calibration programs by ensuring inspection equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly.

  • Support root cause investigations and corrective action processes for internal and external quality issues.

  • Participate in non-conforming material review processes, including disposition and data collection activities.

  • Assist with internal quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Follow all company quality policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, production personnel, and other departments to improve processes, workflow, and product quality.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of quality assurance or quality control experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.

  • Experience using precision measurement and inspection equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and quality improvement methods preferred.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Physical Requirements


  • Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

  • Ability to lift and carry:

    • Up to 10 lbs. continuously

    • 10–20 lbs. frequently

    • Up to 50 lbs. occasionally

  • Ability to work safely around manufacturing equipment.

  • Must possess adequate visual abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
