Program Summary:
The Quality Inspection Technician is responsible for performing detailed inspections of mechanical components, assemblies, and installations to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and applicable aerospace quality standards. This role supports production, overhaul, and/or depot-level activities and plays a key role in maintaining product conformity and airworthiness.
Responsibilities
- Perform in-process, final, and receiving inspections of mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Verify compliance with applicable standards and requirements, including AS9100, FAA, DoD, customer contractual requirements, and internal quality procedures.
- Interpret and apply engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, technical orders, and customer requirements.
- Use precision measurement tools and inspection equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, torque tools, borescopes).
- Document inspection results accurately and completely within inspection records, routers, and quality systems.
- Identify, document, and process nonconformances; support root cause and corrective action activities as required.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality Engineering to resolve inspection issues and clarify requirements.
- Support audits (internal, customer, regulatory) by providing inspection records, objective evidence, and technical input.
- Ensure compliance with configuration control, FOD prevention, and safety requirements.
- Maintain inspection equipment calibration awareness and proper handling of measuring devices.
- Possesses an adaptable character and passion for sustainable process improvement and compliance
- Will promote a "culture of quality and compliance" within a dynamic team environment meeting both internal and external customer requirements
- Will contribute to project teams as needed or assigned
- Perform product inspection, testing, and calibration functions by inspecting parts
- Capable of managing several tasks at once, balancing competing priorities, and consistently meeting deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical certification in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Technology preferred.
- 4+ years of experience performing mechanical inspection in an aerospace, aviation, or regulated manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Working knowledge of aerospace quality systems and inspection practices.
- Experience using precision measurement and inspection tools.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and audit-ready documentation.
- Proficient with basic computer systems and electronic quality records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing, MRO, or depot-level maintenance environments.
- Familiarity with AS9100, FAA, DoD, or customer-specific quality requirements.
- IPC 610/620 Training and Certification
- Prior exposure to MRB processes, nonconformance reporting, and corrective actions.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance, if applicable.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work in a production environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 30 lbs as required.
- Ability to work with mechanical components and inspection tools safely and effectively.
