Job Description

Job Title: Quality Test Engineer

Job Description

The Quality Test Engineer is responsible for failure analysis, qualification testing, and reliability monitoring of semiconductor devices, including high-voltage, analog, mixed-signal integrated circuits, and optically isolated devices. This role conducts detailed investigations into customer field failures, performs comprehensive qualification and reliability tests for new and existing products, and owns the operation and continuous improvement of the on-site failure analysis lab. The position also supports quality systems and audits while contributing to a positive, learning-focused work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform failure analysis (FA) on semiconductor devices, including high-voltage, analog, mixed-signal ICs, and optically isolated devices.
  • Conduct testing on customer field failure samples using visual and microscopic inspection, photo documentation, automated test equipment (ATE), bench electrical characterization, x-ray, chemical or laser decapsulation, thermal characterization, and other FA techniques to determine root cause.
  • Coordinate with external laboratories when advanced or specialized failure analysis techniques are required.
  • Perform investigation triage and deep-dive analyses to develop hypotheses for failure mechanisms and troubleshoot new failure modes.
  • Complete clear and accurate failure analysis reports within tight time frames and communicate findings effectively.
  • Conduct qualification and reliability testing to qualify new and improved products and monitor reliability of existing products.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive qualification reports based on test results and reliability monitoring data.
  • Own and manage the site failure analysis lab, including organization, safe operation of equipment, maintenance and calibration of instruments, and documentation of operating procedures.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve lab operating procedures and provide training on equipment usage and testing techniques.
  • Drive continuous improvement of testing methods, failure analysis processes, and reliability monitoring practices.
  • Support ISO 9001, IATF, and other quality program compliance audits and internal audits.
  • Apply quality control principles, methodologies, and a continuous improvement mindset to all testing and analysis activities.
  • Collaborate closely with qualification engineers, technicians, and R&D engineers to support product development and ongoing reliability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support quality, reliability, and product performance goals.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • One or more years of relevant experience in electronics, test engineering, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with failure analysis (FMEA) or similar structured failure analysis methodologies.
  • Ability to test at the component level using bench electronic testing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electronics and integrated circuit operation.
  • Experience with semiconductor devices, including analog and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis techniques for electronic and semiconductor failures.
  • Experience using automated test equipment (ATE) for device characterization and testing.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with fault tree analysis and 5Y (5 Whys) problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to perform visual and microscopic inspection, x-ray analysis, and decapsulation for failure analysis.
  • Experience with thermal characterization and other advanced FA techniques.
  • Understanding of semiconductor IC product design, application, manufacturing, and reliability.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as JEDEC and AEC.
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and methodologies.
  • Strong documentation skills with the ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate technical reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple investigations and complete reports within tight deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering is a plus.
  • Experience with bench electronic testing equipment for detailed electrical characterization is preferred.
  • Experience with failure analysis in a semiconductor environment is preferred.
  • Experience in semiconductor IC product design or applications engineering is considered a plus.
  • Experience in manufacturing and reliability of semiconductor products is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and a mindset focused on process optimization.
  • Comfort working with cross-functional teams, including quality, reliability, and R&D.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
