JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the NSF Engine Project Manager and CEO, the Project Manager is responsible for coordinating and supporting the implementation of the QuantumCT NSF Engines initiative. The position manages project activities from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with project goals, sponsor requirements, and organizational objectives. The Project Manager serves as a central point of coordination among UConn, Yale University, industry partners, researchers, and other stakeholders, facilitating communication, tracking deliverables, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring successful execution of project activities.

The NSF Quantum Technologies Engine in Connecticut (QuantumCT Engine), led by the University of Connecticut, aims to advance American quantum innovation and secure the domestic quantum supply chain by accelerating the commercialization of quantum technologies for national defense, biotechnology and financial services. Through innovation, applied research leading to new technologies, support for inventors and entrepreneurs and workforce development, the QuantumCT Engine will advance quantum sensing, secured communications, computing, and materials through shared test bed, deep-tech incubator, and translation pathways.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate project activities from initiation through completion to support achievement of project goals and objectives.
  • Monitor project progress, milestones, deliverables, and performance metrics and provide regular updates to project leadership.
  • Coordinate activities across workstreams and teams to ensure alignment with project requirements, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budget projections and similar for leadership, sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with financial and administrative personnel to support fiscal compliance.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, document meeting outcomes, and track follow-up actions.
  • Identify project risks, challenges, and barriers and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of sponsor reports, progress updates, and project deliverables.
  • Assist with event logistics, registration processes, survey administration, and outcome tracking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in business administration, public administration, project management or related field.
  • At least three years of professional experience supporting complex projects, programs, research initiatives, sponsored programs, or related experience.
  • Experience preparing reports, presentations, and financial documents.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and project management applications.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and collaboratively in a complex organizational environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in a related field.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP, CAPM, Agile, Scrum, or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting federally funded programs, including NSF-funded initiatives.
  • Experience working in research, innovation, entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, or higher education environment.
  • Experience coordinating strategic partnerships among academic, government, nonprofit, and industry organizations.
  • Experience with research compliance, reporting requirements, and sponsor regulations.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding. The University offers a competitive salary, and outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment.

Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).

This position is based at the Farmington (UConn Health) campus, and the successful candidate will be required to work on the campus and travel to the Storrs campus as needed. The salary range for this position is $60,416 to $78,541. It is anticipated that this position will be based at UConn for approximately two years and will then transfer to the Quantum-CT organization, which is the public-private partnership co-led by the University of Connecticut and Yale University.
