The R&D Intern will provide technical support to research and development, manufacturing and operations departments. They will assist in developing methods, systems for products, fixtures, tooling, equipment, and/or materials for sustaining or NPD projects. The role requires someone pursuing an engineering degree, with experience in Solidworks and knowledge of lean manufacturing principles. The R&D Intern shall have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, be a team player, have good mechanical aptitude, and a hands-on mentality.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and related functions.
  • Research, develop, and improve manufacturing processes, methods, and systems for products, facilities, fixtures, tooling, equipment, and/or materials.
  • Develop and test work methods and procedures, ensuring performance and quality of materials, products, and machines meet specifications and standards.
  • Assist the project lead or R&D Engineer in ensuring technical outcomes are consistent with established engineering principles and practices and that customer and company technical, system, performance, and quality requirements are met.
  • Research and suggest ideas for new technology.
  • Assist the project lead or R&D Engineer in planning, executing, and reporting of priorities, and reacting to changing priorities.
  • Provide general production support for the assembly area as needed by reviewing and editing manufacturing instructions for clarity and ease of use, troubleshooting issues on the assembly line, and weighing in on situations that need technical assistance
  • Assist in hands-on problem solving and resolution.

 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are necessary in order to act as a liaison between engineering, production, marketing, purchasing, and members of the manufacturing team.
  • Work as a team player.
  • Pursuing a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineer degree from an accredited school.
  • Experience with Solidworks
  • Experience/knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Someone entering junior or senior year preferred.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Hands on mentality
